Remember Ravi Guru Singh? Yes, the “uninterested” guy that Nadia Jagessar went on a date with on Indian Matchmaking? He’s pulling a Vinay Chadha and spilling the tea on fan-favorite Nadia! The lawyer is calling out the Indian Matchmaking team for fiddling with his edit and Nadia for not knowing who Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez is!

Netflix’s Indian Matchmaking got people talking since its premiere on July 16. But it’s been well over two weeks and people are still talking. The dating reality show introduced Mumbai’s top matchmaker Sima Taparia to the world as she hopped from one client and continent to another playing cupid. The show had singles seek out suitable matches for arranged marriages and one of the eligible bachelorettes on Indian Matchmaking was Nadia Jagessar. The New Jersey resident had Guyanese origins but wants to swipe right on a nice Indian boy to settle down with using Taparia’s expertise. Taparia took her criteria for a tall, passionate, and ambitious match into consideration and set her up with a half-Guyanese lawyer Ravi Guru Singh. The two met over drunch but Guru wanted to brunch, which Taparia blamed on their mismatching wavelength. But now, since every character on Indian Matchmaking is out to give their two cents, Ravi Guru Singh too, claims that he’s been wrong. However, what does his Netflix date with Nadia have to do with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Brooklyn-based lawyer did a post-analysis commentary on his scenes with Nadia on Indian Matchmaking which turned out to be quite revealing. Ravi Guru Singh started off by shocking fans with the fact that it was the production crew that paid for the date. Adding that in retrospect he regrets not ordering more, he said, “I was actually trying to listen and stay engaged during Nadia’s Guyana conversation.” Meanwhile, the show allegedly conveyed that Guru wasn’t interested in the date. “You don’t just pair someone because they’re from the same ethnicity,” said Guru referring to Taparia’s comment about both him and Nadia being Guyanese. “They tryna play me bruh,” Guru cried foul about the Indian Matchmaking team as he proclaimed that the couple was seated there chatting for 30 minutes before the actual shots were taken. “We took a pause and they made it seem like we had nothing to talk about,” said the New Yorker.

But here comes the interesting bit. Guru disclosed that at the end of the day, he and Nadia did exchange a lot of information and the event planner also seemed interested. “The only reason I wasn’t feeling it because she had no idea who AOC was,” confessed Guru. “She was a bartender, she became a wedding planner and I was like oh, you were like AOC because she went from being a bartender to being a member of Congress,” he recalled telling Nadia. “She asked, ‘Who’s AOC?’ and I said ‘Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,’ and she had no idea who that was,” said Guru in his tell-all video.

Ravi Guru wanting someone who was aware of current events, especially Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, seemed to be a dealbreaker for him. The Indian Matchmaking team did, according to him, chop this part of their conversation out and kept bits that made him seem indifferent. While Nadia is being celebrated for her role in the reality show, especially after her being apparently stood up by another match Vinay, the Netflix show too, is getting flak for its meme-worthy edits. Ravi Guru’s claims might fall on deaf ears as he wasn’t a “star” of the show due to his final edit, but here’s hoping that Nadia looks up who Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is, at least for the sake of general knowledge.

All episodes of Indian Matchmaking are now available to stream on Netflix.
