At long last, filming for Indiana Jones 5 has wrapped, a producer confirms with a new behind the scenes photo. The road to this point for Indiana Jones 5 has been long and winding. Talk of a fifth movie centered on Harrison Ford’s iconic fedora-wearing adventurer began just before the previous film in the franchise, 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was released. However, development from that point was slow. It seemed to pick up in 2016, with the Disney-acquired Lucasfilm said Indiana Jones 5 would debut in 2019. However, as creative issues got in the way, the movie was pushed back multiple times.

Filming on Indiana Jones 5 finally got off the ground last year, with Ford back in the leading role. For this installment, he’ll be joined by a cast of franchise newcomers, including Mads Mikkelsen, Antonio Banderas, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, and Toby Jones. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is said to be playing the female lead, though most character details are still being kept under wraps. Indiana Jones 5 was once expected to premiere this summer, but production delays throughout 2021 led the film to be moved once more to June 2023.

There have been rumblings of Indiana Jones 5 reaching the end of production for over a month now, and it looks like the movie has finally reached this milestone. Producer Frank Marshall posted a picture of a commemorative Indy hat on social media and wrote, “That’s a wrap!!!” This moment has been a long time coming, making it all the more exciting for both fans and the creatives behind the film.

James Mangold directs Indiana Jones 5, taking over from Steven Spielberg. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but there have been signs that Ford will be de-aged for at least a portion of the movie. Assuming there may be some reshoots later this year, Indiana Jones 5 might not be completely finished, but it has reached an important milestone in wrapping principal photography. This is a project that has been beset by creative changes, the coronavirus pandemic, and an on-set injury for Ford. For some time, it wasn’t even clear if Indiana Jones 5 would ever make it to this point.

Luckily, the cast and crew were determined to make it happen, and the path is now (hopefully) clear for Indiana Jones 5 to premiere next year. With principal photography having been wrapped up well beforehand, Mangold and his team should have ample time to complete post-production ahead of the 2023 release. Though it still might be some time before additional details are revealed, fans could start learning more about Indiana Jones 5 within the coming months. Stay tuned for more updates.
