It’s easy to see why Into the Badlands was as popular as it was during its run. After all, the AMC series offered both something fresh and familiar. Think Game of Thrones but with a good dose of martial arts (something we’ve mostly just seen in the movies) thrown in. There’s also a lot of fighting with blood and gore. However, instead of kingdoms, people only fight to control the Badlands.

The show went on for three seasons before ending in 2019. And anyone who misses the show can also check out other tv shows and movies starring the cast.

Created by Guillermo del Toro, this Netflix animated series centers on two teenage aliens who escape their home planet and try to survive on Earth. Perhaps one of the things that most people also don’t realize about this series is that its cast also includes Into the Badlands actor Nick Frost who voices the character of Stuart, an alien who crash-landed on Earth some 30 years ago.

He is joined by Tatiana Maslany, Diego Luna, and Nick Offerman. The series only went on to run for two seasons. Fortunately, it remains available on Netflix.

9 American Horror Story

Some say that American Horror Story: 1984 is the series’ best season yet. For starters, it features some seriously disturbing horror movie references. In addition, it also introduced us to a fascinating ensemble of characters including Orla Brady’s Dr. Karen Hopple.

Dr. Hopple had served as the Chief of Psychology at Red Meadows Asylum. Hopple famously treated Benjamin Richter, a.k.a. Mr. Jingles (John Carroll Lynch) who had been involved in some gruesome murders at Camp Redwood in the past. And when Hopple learned that Richter escaped, she tried to return to Camp Redwood to warn others. However, Richter killed her.

8 Hail, Caesar!

This 2016 movie is a story about working in Hollywood, where a 50s Hollywood fixer (Josh Brolin) discovers that keeping actors in line is more challenging than anyone expected. The situation also becomes more complicated when their biggest star (George Clooney) gets kidnapped.

Aside from Clooney and Brolin, Into the Badlands actress Emily Beecham also stars as a Hollywood starlet. Meanwhile, other big names in this ensemble comedy include Ralph Fiennes, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Jonah Hill, Tilda Swinton, and Channing Tatum. Unfortunately, the film was still a relative flop at the box office despite its star power.

7 Edge Of Tomorrow

In this 2014 sci-fi movie, Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt team up to fight aliens invading the Earth as they also deal with a mysterious time loop. Edge of Tomorrow also stars Into the Badlands actress Madeleine Mantock who plays a minor role in the movie as Corporal Julie Montgomery.

While speaking with TV Overmind, Mantock confessed that she wasn’t sure if her scenes were even going to be included in the final cut. “Truth is, you never know if you will get cut from a movie that big,” she explained. “But you just go at it hoping.”

6 Tomb Raider

Although it got stuck in development limbo, a follow up to the earlier Lara Croft films was finally released in 2018 (and some say it’s better than the previous movies). Here, Alicia Vikander plays the titular character while Daniel Wu stars as Lu Ren who helps Lara fight off mercenaries.

As it turns out, his role on the AMC show proved to be helpful in preparing for this role. “I’d just come off the second season of Into the Badlands,” Wu told Flickering Myth. “So, I was in pretty good shape already and didn’t have to train too much.”

5 Geostorm

In this 2017 disaster movie, a group of satellites designed to control the world’s climate malfunctions and end the Earth into catastrophic chaos. Because of this, two estranged brothers (Gerald Butler and Jim Sturgess) have to work together to solve the issue.

Meanwhile, the film also stars Wu who plays technology expert, Cheng Long. And if you ask Wu, he especially enjoyed working on the scene where he was behind the wheel. “I also did about ninety percent of the driving where Chen races through the crumbling streets,” Wu told No More Work Horse. “That was really exciting.”

4 The South Westerlies

This new series deals with a small coastal town in Ireland that has already been earmarked for wind farm development. Among the show’s stars is Brady who is Irish born herself. Hence, the actress can certainly understand the message that the show is trying to convey.

“Ireland is obvious for wind energy – we’ve got this big Atlantic coast,” Brady told Blog Critics. “That is the central question in it, do you embrace that change and alter the landscape, or do you try to conserve it exactly as it is?” The show is available on YouTube TV.

3 Charmed

This fantasy tv series has certainly evolved a great deal over the years. This time around, the CW show stars Mantock stars as one of the Charmed sisters who only discover their powers upon their mother’s death. For Macy, the character that Mantock plays, her shock is even compounded by the fact that she didn’t even know about her half-sisters’ existence as well.

“Surprisingly, the familial bond is something that she finds harder to get on with,” the actress explained to Coup de Main. Meanwhile, unlike past lead characters that went up against sinister forces on the show, Macy is unique in that she uses science to fight them.

2 9-1-1

FOX’s 9-1-1 gives us a better glimpse of how 911 operators and paramedics work together to save lives. The show’s primary cast members include Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Into the Badlands actor Oliver Stark.

When the show launched, Stark’s character, Evan “Buck” Buckley was presented as an arrogant rookie who had to be put in place from time to time. Nonetheless, his devotion to the job has always been unquestionable. 9-1-1 has recently started airing its fourth season and it seems we can expect the show to be around for years to come.

1 Outside The Wire

Outside the Wire is a relatively new Netflix movie that takes the concept of cyborgs to a whole new level. In this futuristic movie, a drone pilot (Damson Idris) is asked to work with a top-secret android commanding officer (Anthony Mackie) to stop a nuclear attack.

Aside from Idris and Mackie, Outside the Wire also stars Beecham as Sofiya, a resistance leader who meets with them upon reaching Ukraine. So far, reviews of the movie have been overwhelmingly positive. There’s also a lot of praise for Beecham’s performance, which means we would see more of her in the future.
