Amazon’s animated Invincible TV show receives an official March release date. Based on the acclaimed comic book series from Robert Kirkman, Amazon Prime Video has been developing an animated adaptation for the last few years. The popularity of superhero content across Hollywood inevitably led to Invincible being eyed for the screen. The show is the latest foray into superhero content for Amazon after seeing The Boys become an even bigger hit after season 2’s launch in 2020.

With Kirkman’s backing, Invincible finally has started to pick up steam over the last year. Steven Yeun and J.K. Simmons have long been attached to voice Invincible and his father Omni-Man, but the rest of the huge ensemble has since been revealed. After most of the voice cast announcements were made, Amazon and Kirkman finally unveiled the first footage of Invincible during New York Comic Con’s virtual convention in 2020. The trailer showcased a faithful adaptation of the comics and left fans even more anxious to see the series.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Today is the 18th anniversary of Invincible #1 hitting store shelves, and Kirkman celebrated the occasion with a live-stream about the comic. During this live stream, Kirkman confirmed the release date for the Invincible series on Amazon. The first three hour-long episodes will be released on Amazon Prime Video on March 26. The first season is only eight episodes long, which means Invincible‘s finale will debut on Amazon on April 30. This announcement also brought a brand new clip from the show.

With Amazon releasing the first three episodes of Invincible season 1 at once, fans of the comics will be treated to a lot of content to dive into right away. It will be interesting to see how quickly each episode goes through the comic story. An hour’s worth of content should allow Invincible to cover multiple issues of its comic at a time. And with these first three episodes dropping together, perhaps this will enable Invincible to leave viewers hanging by ending episode 3 with the comic’s first big twist.

Now that Invincible has an official release date, those interested in checking out the comic beforehand now have a deadline to hit to start catching up. Meanwhile, existing fans of the comics now know when they should be done with their re-read of Kirkman’s material. Kirkman has already confirmed some changes will be made and that parts of the story will be further explored in this medium. Given the love for Invincible that already exists, the content could be on the verge of becoming much more popular by the end of April.
