Apple changed up the sizes of the smartphones in its iPhone 14 lineup this year, ditching the ‘mini’ size option in favor of a plus-sized version. At the ‘Far Out’ special event, the company did just that — discontinuing the ‘mini’ size and reviving a larger size option not seen in years. The release of the iPhone 14 Plus marked the first plus-sized iPhone sold by Apple since 2017, when it offered the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus alongside the redesigned iPhone X.

For the first time, users can purchase their preferred size in either the iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro. There are many features that separate the base model iPhone 14 from the iPhone 14 Pro, and the expanded feature set results in a much higher price tag. Since the largest iPhone for many years was the ‘Pro Max’ model, users that craved the biggest display had to select that device. Now, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are available in the same sizes. The bigger version of the iPhone 14 is the iPhone 14 Plus, while the bigger version of the iPhone 14 Pro is the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Is Smaller Or Bigger Better?

The standard iPhone 14 has a screen size of 6.1 inches, measured diagonally, which is the standard display size used by Apple for some time now. It will fit more comfortably in most hands than the bigger model, but trends show customers prefer bigger displays on their smartphones. Apple’s iPhone 14 Plus has a significantly larger display, measuring 6.7 inches diagonally, but comes at a bigger overall footprint. That could make it harder to use with one hand and harder for some users to hold. But the bigger screen makes viewing videos, applications, and just about any other form of media more enjoyable.

A key difference that is often overlooked when comparing the bigger and smaller iPhones is battery life. The additional space inside the iPhone 14 Plus provides more room for a larger battery, which is sure to be noticed throughout daily use. Apple says that the standard iPhone 14 can last for up to 20 hours during video playback, but that number is sure to be much less in daily use. However, the iPhone 14 Plus is rated at up to 26 hours of video playback, resulting in 30 percent more battery life. For users looking for the biggest iPhone with the most battery life, the iPhone 14 Plus is the right choice. Although, people who want all the same features in a more manageable form factor will not be disappointed with the iPhone 14.
