Sneaker heads and comic book fans have long had access to Iron Man inspired kicks from the likes of Vans, Reebok and Adidas, but how about some Iron Jordans?  Australia-based sneaker news site House of Heat has shared a design concept for Air Jordan 6 “Iron Man” and fans are shouting “fire!”

First released in 1991, the Air Jordan 6 was designed by the legendary Tinker Hatfield who designed Air Jordans 3 through 15 and currently serves as Nike’s Vice President for Design and Special Projects.  But while the popular sneaker has been redesigned many times in the past 30 years, it has never sported a superhero design, unlike its predecessor the Air Jordan 1, which touts both Spider-Man and Incredible Hulk-themed designs.

Enter the sneaker enthusiast website House of Heat, whose “Concept Lab” has developed their own take on an Iron Man Air Jordan 6, asking “what better hero to kickstart our series of superhero concepts than Mr. Stark’s alter ego?”  That series includes designs inspired by DC Comics characters Nightwing (“Nightwing” Air Jordan 5), Batman (“Dark Knight” Air Jordan 12), Green Lantern (“Green Lantern” Air Jordan 3) and Batman Beyond (“Tomorrow Knight” Air Jordan 5).

According to House of Heat, the proposed Iron Man Air Jordan 6 design “opted for a micro suede upper, because metallics would be way too much, too over the top and too far out there for the market. But the effect of the suede gives off a rustic vibe, similar to that of old, worn-down metals. Exposed stitching reflects the armor’s joints, with hits of golden-yellow branding in all the usual places.

After posting the design on their Facebook page, House of Heat had over a hundred comments and more than 3,000 shares, with many fans posting flame emojis and exclaiming “I must have these,” while a handful expressed frustration that the sneakers were not an official release.  As the sole (pun intended) Marvel Comics character and Air Jordan 6 superhero design, this sneaker would no doubt fly off the shelves like old shellhead himself, despite the usual $200 price tag on a pair of Air Jordans. At least they would if the shoes were a real thing. Thus far, there have been no official announcements from Nike or Michael Jordan that they intend to release any new superhero themed Air Jordan designs, but with enough fan demand, anything is possible. Just look at the Snyder Cut!
