WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Strange #1!

The new replacement for Marvel Comics’ recently murdered Doctor Strange is Stephen’s Dark Dimensional wife Clea, and she’s already proven that she’s strong enough to take down Iron Man‘s anti-magic armor. Tony Stark specifically made his Cold Iron Armor to act as an anti-magic suit to take down the Dark Elf Malekith. Clea Strange is not only a powerful magician, but she is also half Faltine and the niece of the Dread Dormammu, making her Earth’s darkest Sorcerer Supreme to date.

Tony Stark made his Cold Iron Armor during the massive crossover event War of the Realms when the Lord of the Dark Elves Malekith and his armies descended on the nine realms in a bid to rule them all. Stark infiltrated the dark elves realm Svartalfheim to take down Malekith and his commanders, and in preparation he forged a new suit of armor entirely made out of iron (something, ironically, most of Iron Man’s suits are not made out of), because dark elves and other dark beings experience horrific pain and intense cold if touched by the material, hence the name “Cold Iron.” Since Clea Strange is half-Faltine, a race of dark magic creatures from the Dark Dimension, one would assume that she would also be susceptible to cold iron, but Clea quickly disproves that theory.

In Strange #1 – written by Jed MacKay with art by Marcelo Ferreira – Clea is adjusting to her new role as Sorcerer Supreme and her life in New York City, but a quick adventure to a magical market with Wong quickly forces Strange to flex her dark magic powers against a team of bad guys. While Clea was the Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension for years, Marvel has rarely had the opportunity to show the true potential of her powers on Earth, at least until now. When Clea goes to The Shrouded Bazaar with Wong, a Diagon Alley-esque magical market smack dab in the middle of Downtown NYC, the Bazaar is quickly attacked by a mysterious group of humans, the Blasphemy Cartel, and Strange is forced to take them down in a quite brutal fashion.

The Blasphemy Cartel are attempting to rob and take over the Bazaar and they come in guns blazing, literally, almost immediately killing the kind market seller that Clea and Wong are talking to, enraging Clea and prompting her to fight back. The Cartel quickly realize who they are dealing with, a new Sorcerer Supreme, and pull out all the stops to stop Strange using new magic-infused weaponry, but they have basically no effect on Clea. She is unimpressed by the display of their magical weaponry revealing, “Feh. Silver. Cold Iron. Rune-Scriven Lead. I’m sure this is very effective against hedge witches and gutter mages,” before violently killing many of the Cartel. Clearly Clea Strange is no stranger to cold iron, and has literally zero fear towards it, proving that Iron Man’s Cold Iron Armor would have barely protected him against her powerful magic if they fought while he was wearing it.

This is potentially worrisome, because Clea is literally related to Dormammu and has dark magic in her blood. This does not necessarily mean she is destined for evil, but if she did become a Dark Sorcerer Supreme then Tony’s anti-magic armor would not be able to take her down easily. Clea Strange is already taking her new role as Sorcerer Supreme incredibly seriously, although there are some in the universe who believe that Stephen should not have passed the title of Sorcerer Supreme on to her. To see Clea‘s dark magic as Earth’s replacement for Doctor Strange make sure to check out Strange #1 by Marvel Comics and discover how her intense powers could lead to her overpowering Iron Man himself if she needed to.
