A recent Assassin’s Creed Valhalla rumor claims that the game may be getting a God of War crossover in a huge upcoming DLC. The leaker, Tom Henderson, who has been a reliable source in the past, said that the DLC will have 40 hours worth of gameplay and had developer notes on it that made an ambiguous reference to God of War. Ubisoft has since officially announced AC Valhalla‘s DLC, called Dawn of Ragnarok, which will see players link up with AC Odyssey‘s Kassandra. An interesting mix of historical action and mythology could thus be on its way for players still residing in AC Valhalla’s recreation of Viking-era England.

The crossover between Assassin’s Creed and God of War also makes perfect sense at this moment in time. AC Valhalla recently became Ubisoft’s second best-selling game of all time, and God of War brought the series back from the dead by being the second-best-selling PlayStation game of all time. Both games’ successes came after their series found themselves focused on Nordic cultures and mythology. With God of War Ragnarok on the horizon and AC Valhalla being out for over a year now, both games would benefit by coming together and building interest.

However, the crossover is very unlikely despite there being clear interest in it – either in Dawn of Ragnarok or a potential future DLC for Valhalla. While AC Valhalla certainly features mythological details, the Assassin’s Creed series has long maintained a more historical focus, whereas God of War enjoys literal interpretations of mythology. Both games could seemingly make for the perfect crossover event, but they ultimately would not mix together very well. This is especially the case when considering the DLC’s campaign is supposedly 40 hours long. In that time, the DLC would open too many questions about how the God of War and AC Valhalla worlds could actually work in unison while not giving itself enough time to answer them.

Valhalla’s DLC May Be Inspired By God Of War

Additionally, Henderson’s leak does not claim there will be a crossover between Assassin’s Creed and God of War. In Henderson’s Tweet, he says the ACValhalla‘s DLC is “expected to be around 40 hours of additional gameplay and will be a ‘God of War-style’ expansion, whatever that means.” Nowhere does he actually say that the DLC will contain God of War content, and the official reveal has since confirmed no official crossover between either franchise. Rather, the DLC will have a similar style to God of War, meaning that AC Valhalla will lean further into Norse Mythology. Previous Assassin’s Creed DLC packs have explored alternate histories and mythology, and Dawn of Ragnarok looks as though it’ll be doing the same.

Though the crossover is unlikely to happen based on the leak, it is possible one could happen in the future. For now, though, it seems as if Valhalla is merely receiving DLC inspired by God of War, and not anything that will directly tie the two franchises together. Nevertheless, it appears as if both Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and God of War fans have a lot to look forward to in 2022.
