Hood: Outlaws & Legends isn’t a typical multiplayer experience. In Hood, two teams of four historical brigands with vastly different abilities try to outwit their human opponents and conquer the computer-controlled guards. Their ultimate goal, as might be expected from a game about Robin Hood, is to steal from the rich and give to the poor. In the world of Hood, stealing involves more than cinematic tomfoolery. Guards get stabbed in the back, explosive arrows fly through the sky, and one guy has a pretty impressive mace. When tasked with surviving through some chaos, a friend or two is always nice, but will Outlaws & Legends allow players on different consoles to conquer this world together via crossplay?

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Developed by Sumo Digital and published by Focus Home Entertainment, Hood: Outlaws & Legends comes out at an opportune time to capture some attention. While there is a steady stream of new games emerging on the market, not all of them take advantage of the power of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Better yet, Hood: Outlaws & Legends has unique gameplay applications for the PlayStation 5 DuelSense Controller. Add in a unique gameplay hook that stands out in the multiplayer arena, and Hood has a real shot of attracting a good number of fans across all platforms.

Not only is Hood: Outlaws & Legends coming out on new consoles, but there’s also a version on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as well as PC editions across the Epic Games Store and Steam. Anyone who wants to try Hood for themselves will have plenty of options. However, for a multiplayer game like this, crossplay will be very important. Trying to organize a team of four friends who all bought the game on the same console could be a nightmare, so it only makes sense that Sumo Digital would bring all its online communities into one cohesive whole.

Does Hood: Outlaws & Legends Support Crossplay And Cross-Progression?

Not only will Hood: Outlaws & Legends feature full crossplay support for matchmaking across all available platforms, but the game also features cross-progression. Players who start their thriving careers on Xbox can then jump on the PC version and retain their progress if they want to. The only caveat is that the game won’t have crossplay invites at launch, meaning that players will have to gather teams on the same platform they’re using. According to an FAQ for the game, Sumo Digital will evaluate lifting this restriction based on player feedback, but also noted that it will be a large workload to get the feature going.

So, while friends on different platforms can’t play Hood: Outlaws & Legends together currently, at least the matchmaking pool will draw from the widest amount of players possible, since multiplayer games live and die based on a healthy population. With that hurdle out of the way, this weekend will determine if players are excited to heist their way through Hood‘s fantastical Europe as one of the mythical woodsman’s merry men.
