Where can viewers watch The Legend of Korra online? The show is a continuation of the original series Avatar: The Last Airbender. It takes place 70 years after the events of its predecessor and centers around the next avatar, a waterbender named Korra. The show premiered in April 2012, four years after the finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and delves into what the world looked like after Aang defeated the Firelord.

At the start of the show, Korra has mastered water, earth, and fire “bending.” In her journey to learn air bending, Korra travels to the Republic City. There, she learns of the unrest between benders and non-benders and discovers a secret revolution against benders. In addition to learning air bending, Korra is forced to resolve the conflict of the anti-benders. Just like its predecessor, the show tackles darker topics not normally explored in children’s programming. Both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra reference themes of war, discrimination, and oppression.

The Legend of Korra received praise from both critics and fans. The show earned nominations at the Annie Awards, the TCAs, and the Daytime Emmys. While the show has now concluded, content in the Avatar universe is still in production: The original creators of the show, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, are currently developing a live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series for Netflix. The production schedule and release date for the remake are still up in the air, however, so when audiences can watch the series on Netflix is unknown. Netflix’s upcoming live-action series will hopefully improve upon M. Night Shyamalan’s divisive 2010 live-action remake, titled The Last Airbender, which was not well-received by critics or fans.
