Capcom’s Resident Evil Village is set to be one of the biggest games of 2021 and it would be a huge get for Microsoft if it was released on Xbox Game Pass, especially at launch. It seems unlikely that Microsoft’s service will nab Resident Evil Village within its first year, due to commitments to other platforms.

As of the time of writing, the only Resident Evil game that is currently on Xbox Game Pass is Resident Evil 7. It’s currently available for Game Pass on consoles and PC, but not on cloud. The remake of the original Resident Evil was available as one of the Xbox Gold games back in February 2021. By comparison, the PSNow service currently has Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, Resident Evil Operations Raccoon City, Resident Evil Revelations, Resident Evil Revelations 2, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. PS5 owners with a PS+ subscription also have access to Resident Evil 7 as part of the PS+ Collection.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The reason all of this information is relevant is that it proves Capcom is closer to Sony when it comes to the Resident Evil franchise. This can be seen with Resident Evil Village being announced during the June 2020 PS5 event. The game was also recently featured during Sony’s Play! Play! Play! livestream event, along with Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Sony has been hyping up Resident Evil Village as much as Capcom has, to the point where it practically feels like a PlayStation exclusive.

Resident Evil Village Is Coming To Xbox, But Not Game Pass (Yet)

Although RE Village is coming to Xbox consoles, there is currently no word regarding the newest Resident Evil game arriving on Xbox Game Pass. It seems unlikely to happen at launch, or even within the first year of release. Sony has been promoting Resident Evil Village hard and Capcom has reciprocated with exclusive early demos on PlayStation platforms. It’s more likely to happen once a year has passed and the “newness” value of the game starts to diminish, especially as Capcom is known for discounting its games quickly in sales.

It’s not impossible for Microsoft to front the cash needed to bring Resident Evil Village to Xbox Game Pass, especially as it did so recently for Outriders’ day one releaseIt just seems highly unlikely, given the relationship between Capcom and Sony regarding the game. There’s a good chance that it will happen further down the road, once the hype surrounding RE Village dies down and the initial sales rush ends.
