Although the price and release date of the PlayStation 5 are still unknown, players can already pre-order the next-gen console through a third-party seller in a variety of glitzy finishes, including real gold. Truly Exquisite is offering the PS5 console in three metallic finishes – 24k gold, 18k rose gold, and platinum. They offer the customization for both the standard and digital edition PS5s. The priciest console offered, a platinum disc-capable PS5, for instance, costs ₤8299 or $9,797 USD and $12,885 CAD. The cheapest console, a 24k Gold Digital PS5, costs ₤7999, or $9,443 USD or $12,419. PS5 purchases will feature a decorative wooden box display in addition to insurance and free worldwide shipping. Sony hasn’t even set a date for pre-ordering the standard PS5 let alone revealed concrete information about the console’s price. Nevertheless, Truly Exquisite is already opening their pre-orders. The metallic consoles will be available to pre-order starting September 10th through their website. Given the limited stocks available, these fancy consoles may sell out in a hurry.

Why The Gold PS5’s Price Is Ridiculous

The metallic consoles are certainly beautiful and may be well-worth the price given the materials needed and effort put into customizing it. However, the entire concept of a gold PlayStation 5 is ridiculous. The problem is that the expensive price tag does nothing to enhance the gameplay experience. The metallic finishes are purely an aesthetic choice, and while it may look beautiful and eye-catching on a media console, these fancy PS5s won’t perform any differently than a regular PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.

Of course, these metallic PS5s and accessories also only appeal to a small subset of consumers. Price estimates for the PS5 have suggested it will likely cost somewhere between $400-500, especially since the Xbox Series X has been announced for $499. The average person can’t hope to afford a $10,000 console when purchasing a $499 console is already a financial strain. The Digital Edition is a cheaper alternative to the standard PS5, as it’s price tag will likely be close to half of its counterpart, considering Xbox’s Series S is only $299. Still, most people can only ever hope to dream of having the spare cash to afford a console over ten grand.

At the end of the day, it’s a matter of aesthetics. The only people who should purchase the PS5 in a metallic finish for such a hefty price are those that truly care about appearances, and of course, also have the extra cash to spare. For players hoping for an enhanced gameplay experience, they’re better off investing their money in a quality headset or T.V. While the gold PlayStation 5 may look beautiful featured in a home living room, it’s a ridiculous price to pay simply for aesthetics.
