The core tenet of It Takes Two is that players must work together if they hope to progress through the game. This is due to the game’s many different puzzles and challenges that are centered around the two players using teamwork to solve their problems. As the game progresses these challenges will only become more difficult, so players must ensure that they can work well with their partner.

This is even more true when it comes to the many different boss battles that players must participate in throughout It Takes Two’s run. These fights will force players to use all of the skills that they have learned during their time with game in a situation where they must think quickly. One such boss is Joy, who will more than likely give players quite a bit of trouble. This guide shows players how to defeat the boss Joy.

It Takes Two: How to Defeat Joy

Joy is very unique when it comes to boss battles in the game because there is no health bar present. Instead, players will just need to make their way through each of the phases of this fight in order to complete it.

Phase One: Right at the beginning of the first phase of this fight Joy will transform Cody into a tomato, and a series of poisonous plants will try to attack the players. The player who is in control of Cody will need to slam into the plants to damage them while May fires her water sprayer at them to clear out all of the poison. Eventually, Cody will return to normal and the plants surrounding the boss will go away. May then needs to spray the soil around the boss and Cody can ground pound the soil. Cody will then need to mash buttons until part of Joy’s plant gets lowered and May can cut it with her sickle.

Phase Two: Joy will then start attacking the players by spawning new plants that will slam the ground and attempt to crush the players. Avoid these plants for the duration and Cody will be transformed into a potato. From here the phase will play out in the same way as the first phase.

Phase Three: This part of the fight is very similar to phase two, but instead five pot lids will appear on the ground. The players will need to stand on these lids and dodge to another one whenever a plant is about to attack the one they are standing on. Cody will be turned into a lime and the players will need to make their way through the same process from before. Upon completion, Cody will bring Joy’s head to the ground, which allows May to attack it with her sickle and end the fight for good.

It Takes Twocan be played on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PC.
