It Would Take 50 Hours To Marathon Every MCU Movie

With Spider-Man: Far From Home in the rear view mirror, the MCU is almost 50 hours long (and that’s just the movies). Marathoning most film franchises really isn’t that hard. After all, most tend to top out at less than 10 films. Few are the franchises that go far into double digits, but the MCU is definitely one of them at this point, and is only a few years away from eclipsing the James Bond series in number of installments.

Most film franchises can be run through in less than a day, and even with bathroom and meal breaks accounted for, still don’t break 24 hours. That isn’t the case for the MCU. Currently comprising 22 films – with many more on the way in 2020 and beyond – Marvel Studios’ epic series of interconnected superhero adventures already runs just over two whole days in total runtime, and goes even further over that line when necessary breaks are factored in.

Adding up the official runtimes – which include the MCU’s normally quite long credits sequences – gives a current total of 49 hours and 56 minutes worth of movies. For the record, the runtimes are Iron Man (2 hours, 6 minutes), The Incredible Hulk (1 hour, 52 minutes), Iron Man 2 (2 hours, 4 minutes), Thor (1 hour, 55 minutes), Captain America: The First Avenger (2 hours, 4 minutes), The Avengers (2 hours, 23 minutes), Iron Man 3 (2 hours, 10 minutes), Thor: The Dark World (1 hour, 52 minutes), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2 hours, 16 minutes), Guardians of the Galaxy (2 hours, 1 minute), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2 hours, 21 minutes), Ant-Man (1 hour, 57 minutes), Captain America: Civil War (2 hours, 27 minutes), Doctor Strange (1 hour, 55 minutes), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2 hours, 16 minutes), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2 hours, 13 minutes), Thor: Ragnarok (2 hours, 10 minutes), Black Panther (2 hours, 14 minutes), Avengers: Infinity War (2 hours, 29 minutes), Ant-Man & the Wasp (1 hour, 58 minutes), Captain Marvel (2 hours, 3 minutes), Avengers: Endgame (3 hours, 1 minute), and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2 hours, 9 minutes).

Avengers: Endgame made headlines for months thanks to rumors about its 3-plus hour runtime, something very few blockbusters – even today, when length is inflated – hit; the last major tentpole to do so was The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Of course, this was the epic culmination of every movie so far, and certainly didn’t feel its length. One can hardly blame Marvel for going all out (and it didn’t hurt the box office either). For those concerned about length though, Spider-Man: Far From Home fell back down to the normal MCU range.

As more and more Marvel films continue to be released, a full-on marathon of the MCU will start to become almost impossible to coordinate, just due to the fact that most people don’t often have two (or more) straight days free to do nothing but sit in a theater – or in front of their TV – watching movies, no matter how awesome said movies may be. For now, though, the feat can still be managed, if the people involved are determined enough to make it happen.
