There aren’t many funnier shows out there than It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. It has resulted in lots of memorable moments. Some have resulted in merchandise, while others are relegated to in-person references. However, some get the honor of becoming something greater: memes.

Okay, maybe memes are a dime a dozen, but there’s no denying that It’s Always Sunny has had an impact on the world of internet humor. One of the more defining It’s Always Sunny memes is the “Pepe Silvia” one featuring Charlie standing in front of his giant conspiracy board in the mailroom. Be warned, this article is full of very serious opinions on this matter.

10 Social Anxiety

The Pepe Silvia meme is perfect because it is immediately recognizable and relatable, even if you’re not a fan of It’s Always Sunny. Everything about the chaotic background and Charlie Day’s expression exudes a panic and insanity we all feel every now and again.

So, out of most of the memes on this list, this one is appropriately the most relatable. Many of us struggle with social anxiety and hate having to handle interpersonal moments, no matter how long. If there was an image for that feeling, this would be it.

9 Anakin’s Turn

The Star Wars prequels have had a strange journey, to say the least. After years of being the punching bags of Star Wars fans, they have now grown a fandom of their own. Outside of genuine fans, there are those who have also used these movies as a meme goldmine.

This fine specimen combines the prequels with It’s Always Sunny in the best way. Here, Anakin has become Charlie, uncovering the nonexistent plot of the Jedi. Out of all the memes on this list, this is the one that Palpatine would give two thumbs up.

Oh, what do we have here? This meme seems to have multiple layers to it, like some sort of conspiracy. Or it is just a meme that is incredibly up to date on internet trends dating back years. Who cares? Either way, it’s funny.

It does feel like the past few years have been a nightmare. Now with the Coronavirus, perhaps it all is a sign that the world is nigh. Or maybe having access to 24/7 news from multiple sources isn’t a good thing and might just be overwhelming?

7 March Madness

Maybe this meme will only do well with our sports fans. Most of you are probably more concerned with the status of the new release date for Black Widow as opposed to the status of March Madness. But, for those of you that have more than one hobby, here you go.

It’s a solidly funny meme. For someone like this writer, it is nice to know that others are highly convoluted when it comes to making brackets for things. It takes a lot of thinking to pull these things together, and it’s time we get some respect!

6 Illiterate

For years, fans had wondered “Who was Pepe Silvia?” Who was this mysterious stranger that Charlie uncovered and seemed to leave a paper trail all over the place, even all the way to Carol herself? Well, this lovely meme finally brought light to the confusion.

As many are aware, Charlie is illiterate and straight-up cannot read. This being the case, it only makes sense that he might get confused when sorting the mail. So, living in Pennsylvania himself, he obviously misread the state as someone else’s name.

5 Nicki Minaj

Why is it that Nicki Minaj gets flack for rhyming like this while Dr. Seuss got off scot-free? Probably because he isn’t around anymore and most people don’t actually care about this sort of thing. Why does it matter that Nicki Minaj doesn’t actually make rhymes? It’s a reference to a well-known children’s book. None of it matters. She doesn’t owe you anything. (Ugh) fine, we’ll calm down for now about it, but leave Nicki alone.

4 Not Everyone Knows

Another meta meme for you all to enjoy. This meme blends together two templates into one, with the Pepe Silvia meme being referenced in this Andy Dwyer Meme. Solid use of both templates and it highlights a whole group of meme users who are unaware of the origin of the joke.

If we were to knock off any points towards this, it would be due to the dated font. Rarely do good memes still utilize his font anymore. This would look more fitting if it was applied to a meme featuring a cat or something.

3 Ancestry

This one is pretty niche (and it still uses that annoying font again, stop it!). That being said, for those of us with family members obsessed with genealogy or ancestry, this is a top-notch meme. Geneology is fun and all, but these people take it to a whole other level.

Also, have any of you actually looked at how much one of those subscriptions is? It’s pretty expensive. One could use the money they were using there for, like, multiple streaming services. But hey, if it’s your passion all the power to you.

2 Change My Mind

Uh oh, this one might stir some controversy. Stemming from the actions of a conservative comedian, the original template of this meme came with lots of arguments from both sides of the political spectrum. That being said, it still makes for some great memes.

Here we find Charlie’s face photoshopped onto the body of the original, and the sign now reading that Pepe Silvia doesn’t exist. It is a great combination of two memes into one, just like most of the other ones that have popped up on this list.

1 Justification

Let’s end this list on a relatable note. While it might not be as complicated as the image it’s using, this version of the meme is simple yet hilarious. No pop culture references here, only a simple reference to the fact that everyone makes mistakes, and just as many of us attempt to justify them.

At the end of the day though, we have to come to our senses and realize that all we can do is own up to our mistakes. Unlike Charlie, who will never relent the fact that there really is no Pepe Silvia. There never ever was.
