Even by the standard of a show like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, known for its pushing of the boundaries of acceptability and taste, Frank Reynolds is something else. Prone to taking his clothes off, off-color remarks about anything ranging from race to religion, and for carrying a gun around (and waving it at the least provocation), he’s a true genius of a character.

It’s not surprising that he would also become something of a fan favorite, and a number of fan artists have turned their considerable talents to creating pieces of fan art that are just as delightful as Frank himself.

10 When Andy Warhol Met Disney

One of Frank’s most memorable appearances was when he donned a disguise meant to evoke the famous artist Andy Warhol. It’s one of those moments that is so ridiculous that it’s impossible not to laugh. This brilliant artist has taken this iconic moment and given it the Disney treatment, and the sketches look like the storyboarding that typically takes place before a film is fully animated. The attention to detail, and the capturing of Frank’s wacky mannerisms, is simply divine.

One of the most memorable episodes of the entire show was the musical episode, in which Charlie pens an entire musical devoted to the figure known as the Nightman. The entire sequence proved that the cast can actually sing (which is something of a surprise), but to many people the real highlight of the episode is Frank as the troll. This brilliant artist has taken this iconic Frank disguise and turned it into a children’s book cover. What’s not to love?

8 The Trashman

Frank Reynolds from Always Sunny is my number three. Amazing feet model Danny Devito and the folks behind IASIP created so many memorable looks for Frank: from an art critic to a humble limo driver to a goblin to a creepy kids pageant host and so many many more. So I really had a great many options to pick from. However there is one character that is true and close to my heart. Wrasslin’ biggest star, The Trashman! A real american hero! #art #artist #cartoon #cartoonist #weirdart #fanart #alwayssunnyinphiladelphia #alwayssunny #iasip #dannydevito #frankreynolds #trashman #wrasslin

Frank has, time and again, proven himself to be a master of disguise, or at least of becoming many different characters. That includes, in this case, the wrestling star known as the Trashman. It’s a brilliant moment in the series, and also a troubling once, since he almost fatally injures the hapless Cricket. The artist here brilliantly captures the almost cartoonish nature of Frank’s wrestling persona, showing him in the midst of his great wrestling victory in the ring.

Of all of Frank’s disguises, Mantis Toboggan has to be in the top three. Of course, no one in their right mind would ever believe that Frank is in any way a doctor, but that doesn’t stop him from fully leaning into the schtick.

Part of what makes the entire charade so ridiculous is the pairing of “mantis” and “toboggan,” and this artist has cleverly literalized this disguise of Frank’s, giving the viewer the pleasure of seeing a praying mantis with, of course, a toboggan (or, as most people know, it a beanie).

Frank is Done!! There’s still a few Frank Reynolds personalties I would have liked to add (maaaaybe someone will request more OR a whole Its Always Sunny one) but for now, here’s Frank in all his glory! #frankreynolds #manspider #chieflazarus #mantistoboggan #tolltroll #rumham #ongo #mancheetah #intervention #trashman #littlemisspagaent #magnumdong #spiral

Frank has adopted so many different personae through the course of his time on the show that sometimes it’s hard to lose track. More than that, it’s hard to know which one is really the best. Thankfully, this artist has opted to simply show them in all of their glory, and so here we see some of Frank’s greatest hits. Even more than that, there’s quite a lot of charm in these images, and one might almost be forgiven for thinking that Frank is harmless (which he certainly isn’t).

So anyway, I finished my latest Frank fanart! 😚 Gouache, fountain pens, and white ink on watercolor paper, and several hours, probably somewhere around 18-20 total hours painting time. Limited edition prints of this one are available in my Etsy shop! neverdieart.etsy.com

What would Frank Reynolds be without his trusty guns in hand? He certainly wouldn’t be the Frank Reynolds that so many fans have come to love. This artist has ably captured the flippant way with which Frank typically pulls out his guns, usually without any sense of whether it would be appropriate or not to do so (needless to say, it almost always isn’t). One can’t help but admire the detail of this particular piece of fan art.

So, there are some times when the show, and Frank in particular, seemed to veer off into the realm of the absolutely surreal. That is definitely the case with Man Cheetah, one of Frank’s many, many personalities that he adopts. That being said, one has to give a lot of credit to this artist, who has somehow managed to take this particularly bizarre instance of Frank’s disguises and turned it into what is, without a doubt, a genuine piece of art.

3 Gotta Love The Rum Ham

It takes a special kind of person to conceive of the idea of soaking a ham in rum, and there are a lot of people who still can’t quite decide whether the idea sounds delicious or disgusting (or perhaps some combination of both). The genius of this particular piece of fan art is that it manages to combine Frank-definitely one of the more cartoonish characters in the show-and Dr. Seuss.

2 The Wisdom Of Frank

A post shared by sweet dee (@sweetdeestitches) on

The funny thing about Frank is that, despite the fact that he’s absolutely bananas sometimes, he does have those moments where he says something that is simultaneously ridiculous and insightful. There are, indeed, quite a few artists who would agree with the sentiment that there is always some suffering involved with art. However, the “painting” pun really seals the joke, and this piece of fan art wisely chooses to convey these words of wisdom in embroidery.

There are many things that can be said about Frank Reynolds, but there’s no doubt that he’s a brilliant businessman, if a profoundly unethical one (in this case, one of his soft drinks is being sold to a terrorist group). Of course, he’s also known for offering an egg in a trying time. These two incidents are brilliantly brought together in this piece of art, which offers up Frank in all of his egg-offering and cola-selling glory.
