Very few shows are still going strong after 14 seasons, but It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia still has fans clamoring for more. Years after most sitcoms have drastically declined in quality and lost most of their viewers, It’s Always Sunny has clung to its fan base (and its integrity) by continuing to evolve its familiar formula and trying out experimental concepts.

10 The Gang Tries Desperately To Win An Award (9.2) – Charlie Sings “Go F*** Yourselves”

When the Gang goes after a local Best Bar Award, Charlie offers to get working on the theme song that will win them the Best Song Award (despite the fact that there is no Best Song Award). At first, he writes a whimsical Randy Newman-esque song.

However, after huffing glue in the basement for a while, he emerges when all the award voters are there and sings a different song, telling them all, “Go f*ck yourselves!”

9 CharDee MacDennis: The Game Of Games (9.2) – Dennis Takes A Dart To The Hand

Season 7’s “CharDee MacDennis: The Game of Games” is one of It’s Always Sunny’s most beloved installments. The Gang plays their homemade board game, with some shocking revelations along the way.

The most memorable moment from the episode sees a dart hitting Dennis in the hand. He doesn’t flinch at all. The scene has since become a popular meme.

8 Time’s Up For The Gang (9.3) – Mac Lifts Dee By The Crotch

It’s Always Sunny tackled the #MeToo movement in the episode “Time’s Up for the Gang,” as every member of the Gang discovered they’d done something regrettable in the past during a sexual harassment seminar.

Midway through the episode, Mac lifts Dee into the air by the crotch in a not-so-subtle nod to a disturbing claim made by a certain someone on a certain Access Hollywood bus.

7 The D.E.N.N.I.S. System (9.3) – Dennis Explains The System

Since the episode “The D.E.N.N.I.S. System” revolves around Dennis’ titular system for seducing women, the most memorable scene is his explanation of the system.

He takes the Gang through each step in the system, and while the guys are impressed, Dee is understandably disgusted and horrified.

6 Sweet Dee’s Dating A R******* Person (9.3) – Electric Dream Machine’s Debut Performance

Charlie didn’t turn his Dayman and Nightman characters into a full-blown rock opera until the season 4 finale “The Nightman Cometh,” but he previously performed the musical’s biggest number alongside Dennis under the band name Electric Dream Machine.

The gig went horribly, as they were booed off the stage in the middle of their performance. Luckily, it didn’t discourage Charlie enough to put the kibosh on his musical adaptation.

5 Mac & Dennis Move To The Suburbs (9.4) – Mac Feeds The Dead Dog To Dennis

Mac and Dennis are slowly driven insane after leaving the city behind to rent a house in the suburbs. Dennis insists that Mac stays at home while he goes to work, so that he can take care of the house.

He buys a dog for Mac to keep him company, but since Mac neglects to feed the dog, he’s dead in no time. And then, as a sick cry for attention, Mac cooks chunks of the dead dog into Dennis’ dinner.

4 The Gang Goes To A Water Park (9.5) – Frank Slides Down A Dry Water Slide

All throughout season 12’s “The Gang Goes to a Water Park,” Frank and Charlie use a fake AIDS diagnosis to skip all the lines. At the end of the episode, they find a slide based on Thunder Gun Express that’s yet to be opened.

The slide is bone-dry, so Frank and Charlie pour a single water bottle down it to moisten it up. Frank leaves a trail of blood as he slides down the slide, crying out, “It burns! It burns! It burns!”

3 Hero Or Hate Crime? (9.5) – Mac Comes Out

There were plenty of memorable moments in “Hero or Hate Crime?,” from the Gang hiring new arbitrators every time there’s a disagreement to Mac pitching the Ass Pounder 4000. But the most memorable scene comes at the end, when Mac openly accepts his homosexuality for the first time in the series’ run.

The Gang expected Mac to go back in the closet once he got his lottery payoff, but Mac insisted that he’d stay out. And subsequent seasons have shown that he was telling the truth.

2 The Nightman Cometh (9.7) – Frank Can’t Stop Saying “Boy’s Hole”

Although the opening night of Charlie’s eponymous musical in “The Nightman Cometh” is a hysterical set piece, arguably the most memorable scene in the season 4 finale is when Frank is rehearsing his big number, “Troll Toll.”

The song goes, “You gotta pay the troll toll/ if you wanna get into that boy’s soul,” but Frank can’t stop pronouncing the last two words as “boy’s hole.”

1 Charlie Work (9.8) – The Long Take

The long tracking shot in “Charlie Work” is often mistaken for an homage to Birdman. It’s easy to see why, with the jazz drum on the soundtrack. But it was actually inspired by the lengthy tracking shot from the first season of True Detective.

Some of the hidden cuts may not be hidden particularly well, but all in all, Charlie Day plays the scene brilliantly and there’s a smooth comic flow to the farcical proceedings.
