Jack Dylan Grazer, who played Freddy Freeman in Shazam!, pokes fun at Tom Holland while he avoids spoiling Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Although the sequel was first announced shortly after the release of the first installment, in 2019, it has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally intended to be released in April 2022, the movie is now set to hit theaters in June 2023.

With filming on Shazam 2 well underway, there has been a renewed interest in details about the sequel’s plot. The new additions to the cast, including Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler, have shed some light on how the story could shape up. It’s also been confirmed, by returning director David F. Sandberg, that the Shazam family will all be getting new costumes. Still, in a new interview, Grazer is clearly mindful of not revealing too much about what will happen when he reprises the role of Freddy.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Speaking with Collider to promote the new Pixar movie Luca, Grazer was asked about his reaction to the video which revealed the new costume of co-star Zachary Levi. He was also asked about how he felt while reading the script for Shazam 2. Although it seems for a moment that Grazer might reveal something new, he ultimately decides to play it safe. He also pokes a little fun at Tom Holland, as the Spider-Man actor has gained a reputation for inadvertently spoiling the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You can read Grazer’s quote below:

“It was like, oh, wow… it totally–I think I can say this because I think that I saw this. Oh, god. I better not. I don’t wanna pull a Tom Holland.”

Grazer’s remarks point to the fact that Holland has a history of inadvertently revealing information about upcoming MCU projects. At times, the information is relatively minor. This was the case when Holland alluded, in passing, to part of a fight scene in Captain America: Civil War before the movie premiered. At other times, however, Holland accidentally gives away major plot developments. An example of this occurred when Holland teased that Spider-Man would go to space, prior to the debut of Avengers: Infinity War. Joe Russo, the co-director of Avengers: Endgame, even said that Holland wasn’t allowed to have a script out of fear that he might give something away.

These days, Holland’s reputation for spoiling Marvel is likely more of a playful running gag than any real issue. Still, the actor’s early missteps have clearly left an impression on other performers in comic book franchises. Grazer has been willing to note, generally, that Shazam! Fury of the Gods has more action than its predecessor. But when it comes to specifics about what the sequel will entail, and how it might balance the young cast with their adult counterparts, for instance, fans will have to wait to find out.
