Peacemaker creator James Gunn teases that he is working on multiple projects for DC. James Gunn wowed DCEU fans with his superhero team-up The Suicide Squad. Serving as a sequel and reboot to its critically panned 2016 predecessor Suicide Squad, Gunn’s film brought new life into the DCEU franchise. Although the film did not do as well as hoped at the box office, most likely a result of pandemic restrictions on theaters, The Suicide Squad performed well on HBO Max, becoming the most viewed DCEU film on the streaming service, and was generally praised by critics.

Spinning out of The Suicide Squad came Peacemaker, a series for HBO Max that centered on John Cena’s character from the film. The show was an even bigger hit for HBO Max and Peacemaker season 2 has already been greenlit. In addition to working on that second season, Gunn is also working on another TV show for DC, though whether it’s connected to either The Suicide Squad or Peacemaker isn’t known. Now, though, Gunn may have revealed he has yet another DC project in the works as well.

In a recent interview with podcaster Neil Vagg, director James Gunn revealed that he’s working on multiple DC projects. After explaining where the Peacemaker season 1 leaves its central character, Gunn quickly confirms that he is currently working on a separate project for DC and then hints at yet another project in his future. “I’m working on another DC thing, and maybe another one. So we’ve got got a couple of different things that we’re balancing with the stories.”

The writer-director first aimed at the superhero genre with his 2010 indie hit Super about a disappointed short-order cook who dons a mask and costume and dubs himself the Crimson Bolt, a superhero without superpowers whatsoever. Gunn followed that critical darling with the MCU blockbuster smash Guardians of the Galaxy. There he perfected the superhero team-up formula that he successfully brought to the rival DCEU after Gunn’s controversial firing by Disney. In 2019, Gunn was brought back to Disney and Marvel Studios after massive backlash by fans, the cast and crew of Guardians of the Galaxy, and the media.

Letting his work speak for himself, James Gunn has placed himself at the center of two colossal superhero franchises that show no signs of slowing down. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and Peacemaker season 2 on his plate, he will dictate Marvel and DC fandom for years to come. These additional DC projects he’s involved with, while details remain unknown, could seemingly give James Gunn more control over the DCEU’s future than anyone. As his quality has been proven time and again, fans can’t wait to see what the creator has in store. Peacemaker season 1 can be currently streamed on HBO Max.
