Actor Jamie Dornan has revealed he has met with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige about a role in the MCU. The MCU has spanned an impressive 13 years since the release of Iron Man in 2008, with 26 films and four Disney+ series currently under its belt. With Phase 4 having begun in 2021, and plenty more films and shows still scheduled for release after the massive slate announced during the recent Disney+ Day event, there are many roles an actor of Dornan’s caliber could fit into within the MCU.

Since 2006, Dornan has starred in several productions, making a name for himself in Once Upon a Time as the Sheriff/Huntsman, which he starred in beginning in 2011 before his character was killed by the Evil Queen. However, the actor is probably best known for portraying Christian Grey in the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy. Dornan starred in the popular saga alongside Dakota Johnson, who played Anastasia Steele in the films based on E.L. James’ novels. In Kenneth Branagh’s newest film, Belfast, Dornan stars as the father of a young boy named Buddy growing up in 1960s Ireland. Branagh himself isn’t a stranger to the MCU, having directed 2011’s Thor and returned for a vocal cameo in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War.

For Dornan, however, the connection to the superhero genre is a little different. While promoting Belfast, Dornan sat down with The New York Times to discuss his life and career. Dornan previously auditioned for the coveted role of Superman in Man of Steel, which ultimately went to Henry Cavill in the DCEU. Though he did not receive the role of Superman, Dornan hasn’t given up on the superhero genre, saying that he has previously met with Feige for a potential role in the MCU. While the actor didn’t go into detail about what the role was, it seems it was a hero character, given the article’s reference to “donning a cape and tights.”

With Feige confirming the eventual addition of properties such as X-Men and The Fantastic Four, there have been rumors and fan-casting ideas swarming the internet ever since, speculating about potential actors who could fill these roles. X-Men characters like Wolverine, Gambit, Cyclops, Reed Richards, and Johnny Storm could all fit the profile of Dornan, depending on the direction Feige and Marvel decide to take. However, other popular characters fans have been longing for, like Johnny Blaze the Ghost Rider, could also be a possibility.

While Dornan didn’t explicitly state what property he met with Feige about, or whether it was a past or future project, having a role in the MCU has become one of Hollywood’s most sought after opportunities. For over 13 years, the MCU has been the catalyst for cementing the careers of many actors, while also engaging with established actors for pivotal roles. The MCU has drawn such iconic talent as Ben Kingsley, Cate Blanchett, Angela Bassett, and more. With more recent Marvel additions like Tony Leung and Salma Hayek in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Eternals respectively, the wealth of talent continues to grow, and it’s possible that Dornan could be joining their ranks soon enough.
