Jane Fonda reveals she once saved her grandson from a bear. The Oscar-winning performer is well known for her roles in movies like 9 to 5 and They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? Fonda is also a longtime activist dating back to the 1960s. In recent years, she helped start Fire Drill Fridays, a movement centered around taking action to fight climate change. It’s become a family affair, as Fonda’s grandchildren have gotten involved over the years.

Fonda has two grandchildren from her and ex-husband Roger Vadim’s daughter Vanessa Vadim: Malcolm and Viva Vadim. While they haven’t stepped into the spotlight too much over the years, both of them appeared in the HBO Original Documentary Jane Fonda in Five Acts. The duo have since followed in their activist grandmother’s footsteps, taking part in her protests in Washington, D.C. In the past, Fonda has taken to social media to share how proud she was of them for getting arrested along with her and fellow protestors for civil disobedience.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Fonda shared an epic story about her grandson while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Fonda paid a virtual visit to the talk show to chat about Fire Drill Fridays. However, she also took part in a fun segment called “Best, Worst, First” where she had to say the first thing that popped into her head based off a generated prompt for each category. During the “worst” portion, the topic generator landed on “uninvited guest.” Fonda immediately thought of a scary moment from when her 3-month-old grandson was staying with her in a small cabin in New Mexico. Read her full story below:

I was in bed and I heard this weird nose – like the rattling of a door. I got up and went into the living room and I turned around and my Golden Retriever came running out whelping and yelling. I’m like, ‘what’s this?’ And I go running in – whoo! There’s a bear! Right in the middle of my small bedroom, heading right for my grandson’s crib, but I knew what to do. I opened my bathrobe and I went: [screams]. And this is what happened, the bear urinated on my antique rug and then turned around and sat down. I roared again and it went out to the door and it sat down. There’s the hole in the screen door that it came through. I pushed it out and slammed the glass door.

Fonda’s story was met with applause from Fallon and the audience. The Hollywood legend shared some other incredible stories during the game, too. In the “best” section she revealed her best kiss, which was also her first kiss, was with Mr. Novak leading man James Franciscus. During the “first” section, the New York native brought things back to Fire Drill Fridays, touching on her first Zoom rally, which had so many participants that the program crashed.

If anything, the prolific performer’s time on The Tonight Show cemented her status as a force to be reckoned with. After winning countless awards throughout her lengthy career, including two Oscars, it seems the Grace and Frankie star can add “Winner of Bear Fight” to her resume. And, based off her story, she could likely tout “Grandma of The Year” as well. With such an eventful and exciting life, it seems unlikely Jane Fonda will run out of entertaining stories to tell anytime soon.
