A beautiful cosplay set by Gracie the Cosplay Lass (@graciecosplay) showcases Jane Foster in her Mighty Thor form, ready to take flight and smash evil with her trusty Mjolnir, proving why Jane’s upcoming appearance in the movie Thor: Love and Thunder should stay as comic-accurate as possible.

Jane Foster was originally a nurse who worked with Dr. Donald Blake, Thor’s original mortal identity, created by Odin to be the mortal host for his son when he needed to learn humility and sacrifice. Jane and Donald fell in love, but Thor’s duties as the God of Thunder and Prince of Asgard meant that their romance came to an end. Jane moved on and became a doctor herself, but she grew into a central character in Thor’s stories only during Jason Aaron’s long tenure as writer on Thor. Jane, now sick with cancer, was chosen by Mjolnir to inherit the mantle and powers of Thor when the Odinson was deemed “not worthy.” As the Mighty Thor, Jane was the protector of both Asgard and Earth, until she sacrificed her life to stop the Mangog and save the gods. Resurrected by Odin, she has now taken up the role of the Valkyrie and recently became a member of the Avengers.

In a limited series arriving in June, Jane Foster will pick up the new Mjolnir and become Thor once again. This is the perfect time for Grace’s stunning cosplay to remind us just how gorgeous Jane’s Thor is. On Twitter, Grace reproduced Thor’s armor down to every stunning detail, including the intricate inlays and carvings of Asgardian craftsmanship. It is particularly impressive the work she did on the helmet, and how realistic and comics-accurate it looks, especially the side wings. The best touch, however, must be the fact that the armor doesn’t appear too polished but has a worn look, as it truly transmits the idea that Jane’s Thor is a warrior, flying from one battle to the other without time to rest.

In the upcoming movie Thor: Love and Thunder, Jane Foster (portrayed by Natalie Portman) will pick up Mjolnir, adapting part of Jason Aaron’s storyline in the comics. Tie-in merchandise for Love and Thunder revealed Jane’s Thor outfit and the fact that she will be wielding Mjolnir, reforged after the events of Thor: Ragnarok. Something similar is happening in the comics, where Thor had to destroy and reforge Mjolnir to free it from the devious influence of the Mangog. Jane Foster’s Thor was controversial to some but, more importantly, inspiring for many fans. Not only she was a powerful female character, Jane also represented the fight against cancer. Thor Odinson has always been characterized as larger than life (and his “mortal identities” such as Blake served to dilute that aspect) while Jane is a regular mortal, which made her more relatable to many readers. Gracie’s cosplay is perfectly accurate and does a great job of reproducing one of the most important Marvel characters of the last few years.

Jane Foster’s time as Thor was always one of Marvel Comics’ boldest creative decisions, which inspired readers, fans, and creatives like Gracie who wanted to homage the character. Thor: Love and Thunder will surely offer a new, interesting depiction of Jane Foster as Thor, and fans can only hope it will be as faithful to the comics as possible.
