Aquaman star Jason Momoa is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Kraven the Hunter in new Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 fan art. The sequel to last summer’s Spider-Man: Far From Home is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s most exciting upcoming films. Both of the first two movies in the Tom Holland-starring franchise have been well-received by critics and audiences alike, making the series the rare win for both Marvel and Sony. As of now, very little is known about the script for Spider-Man: Homecoming 3, including who the villain will be. Many are hoping for Kraven, one of Spider-Man’s biggest enemies in the comics.

This theory is fueled by Sony’s plans for a Kraven solo movie. It might make sense to introduce the character as an antagonist for Spider-Man before spinning him off into his own film. Additionally, director Jon Watts has mentioned in the past he’d like Kraven to be villain. Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 is also expected to film in Iceland, which could be the perfect location to introduce Kraven. However, that shooting plan could be off the table as a result of the coronavirus, which has also delayed filming on the movie. Holland still needs to finish his work on Uncharted before he’ll be able to start Spider-Man: Homecoming 3. At that time, more information about the film’s plot may be revealed.

As expected, Kraven’s casting has become a hot topic of conversation. There are many good options, though Momoa seems to be an especially popular fan choice. Jackson Caspersz Art on Instagram agrees, revealing art imagining Momoa in the role. Check it out below:

As mentioned in the caption, the artist has created fan art starring Kraven before, recently putting The Suicide Squad actor Joel Kinnaman in the part. Joe Manganiello is another popular choice, with the actor even calling it “a dreamrole.” However, others including popular fan artist BossLogic, have offered alternate takes on Momoa as Kraven. It makes sense; since the character’s solo movie is already planned, Sony will want to cast an actor with star power, and Momoa fits that criteria. He’s also very comfortable in superhero movies thanks to his role in the DC Extended Universe. However, that could also make him playing Kraven less likely, as appearing in two major franchises simultaneously is a big commitment.

It’s also worth remembering Kraven isn’t confirmed for Spider-Man: Homecoming 3, so it could be awhile until he makes his debut. It will depend on Sony’s plans, as well as the role he plays in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As filming and development picks back up following the pandemic, Sony and Marvel’s intentions regarding Kraven the Hunter will hopefully become clearer, including if he’ll be a part of Spider-Man: Homecoming 3.
