The Walking Dead’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan has shared a picture of himself on set for the last time as the decade-long series comes to a close. The Walking Dead debuted on AMC back in 2010, starring Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, a sheriff’s deputy who wakes from a coma amid a zombie apocalypse. Over years, Rick and his tight-knit group of survivors have adapted to survive to a hopeless world, fighting off both the ravenous undead and the dark, twisted gangs of humans that have formed. Dean Morgan joined the show for its season 6 finale as the iconic The Walking Dead comics villain Negan. The brutal, baseball-bat-wielding enemy has been a show highlight for the last few years, slowly becoming an anti-hero through a gradual redemption arc.

Negan continues to fight alongside the group in The Walking Dead‘s final season 11. The extra-long episode run is set to finally wrap up over a decade of Walking Dead stories, with beloved characters Daryl, Carol and Maggie among the long-standing heroes. Earlier this week, show-runners announced that filming on the final episode had concluded and shooting on the show as a whole was officially complete, leading to an emotional realization for fans that The Walking Dead season 11 finale is getting closer.

Now, Morgan has joined the conversation regarding the end of shooting with an Instagram post of his own. Speaking to his fans and followers, the Negan actor posts an image of his last day on set. Morgan says, “It’s going to take a bit to process it all,” before addressing the fans of the show by admitting that “thank you probably doesn’t cover it, but it’s all I got.” The image shows the actor posing with the head of a walker, preparing for the director to yell ‘action’ as crew stand beside him ready to shoot his final scenes. Morgan is the latest Walking Dead star to celebrate and commemorate the wrap of the final season 11. Daryl actor Norman Reedus posted a throwback to the show’s season 1 following the special day, while numerous cast and crew also shared their feelings online following the series’ official wrap post. While The Walking Dead is coming to an end, its universe is set to live on through a number of spin-offs, including a planned movie trilogy that will see Lincoln’s original hero, Rick Grimes, return.

In fact, there is a future ahead for Morgan’s Negan, too, specifically in the form of the recently announced The Walking Dead spin-off show Isle of the Dead. The surprise announcement came last month that sworn enemies Negan and Maggie will be headlining the spin-off as an unlikely duo on a mission to zombie-infested New York City. Morgan was excited to tell fans about the future project, but his gratitude to fans of the main show remains. While the future of the Walking Dead-verse is plentiful, there is no escaping the fact that the 11-season-long original The Walking Dead is soon coming to a dramatic close.

The Walking Dead season 11 airs every Sunday on AMC.
