Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino made famous by the Jersey Shore is celebrating five years of sober living after going to rehab and getting clean. Fans watched as the young man fell deeper into a spiral. It wasn’t long until he realized something had to change.

Fans are shocked to think that it was only ten years ago that the young guidos and guidettes graced the small screen for the first time with their large muscles, puffed hair, and orange skin. The group of young, wide-eyed adults was known to party it up at Karma and sit down for Sunday dinners, all while having major blowouts that would end as quickly as they began. Now that the cast is all grown up, most with spouses and children at home, the group has starred in the spin-off that is meant to show them from a more mature angle.

One of the emotional moments of the show recently was when “MVP” was finally able to do their cheer with Sorrentino himself, saying his “probation office isn’t going to like this.” Even though The Situation has been back on the show for almost two seasons now, he is still taking each day in stride. Big Daddy Sitch recently took to Instagram to share with fans that he was still sober five years on.

In a social media post where he showed off his medallion, he wrote, “BDS has been through some situations in life, addiction being one of them. I have grown a lot as an individual, overcome a lot of obstacles, and one of my proudest moments so far has been celebrating 5 years of continuous sobriety this past December. Receiving my 5 year medallion made me feel like I won a gold medal, and it is a badge I am honored to wear!” Fans have enjoyed watching the reality star give back by speaking out to young adults in schools. The soon-to-be father went on to say, “I share my journey of addiction, because it is so important to break the stigma of addiction. People are suffering out there because they are afraid to speak out about needing help. If I can help just one person find their voice, I know it was all worth it!” The father figure of the party house has gone on to earn the respect of his roomies after years of lies and betrayal. He ended his post by saying, “If you or someone you know are struggling with addiction or mental health issues, don’t be afraid to ask for help. If I can do this I know you can too!

The New Year is bringing big changes for Mike since he is expecting his first child. He is also going back into the Jersey Shore house without Snooki, who decided it was time for her to say goodbye. There is no telling how much longer MTV fans have with the group, but they will live for every moment.
