HBO Max’s Legendary star Jeter Gucci has revealed that he was battling COVID-19 while filming his final episode on the show. During this episode, the Gorgeous House of Gucci fell in the bottom two and Jeter attempted to save the house from elimination. Legendary has been a huge hit for HBO Max, and the streaming service has already renewed the series for a second season. Throughout the first season, eight houses fought in a series of balls that tested their skills in voguing, modeling, dancing, and walking in a ballroom.

Initially, each of the Legendary houses had five members. However, the Gorgeous House of Gucci lost one house member in episode 3, “Circus Bezerkus.” In the episode, Miracle and Delicious had a heated disagreement during rehearsals, prompting Miracle to leave the competition. Consequently, the Gorgeous House of Gucci was left with only four members: Jarrell (father), Delicious, Deshon, and Jeter. During the semifinals that took place in episode 8, “Atlantis,” the Legendary judges put the Gorgeous House of Gucci and the House of Lanvin in the bottom two, and Jeter Gucci was chosen to battle it out with Makaylah Lanvin. Now, Jeter is revealing a behind-the-scenes secret that may have impacted his performance in the episode.

Now, Jeter Gucci is claiming that he was actually fighting COVID-19 while filming that final battle between the Gorgeous House of Gucci and House of Lanvin. On Thursday, July 9, HBO Max released the final two episodes of Legendary season 1: “Atlantis” (Episode 8) and “Heaven and Hell” (Episode 9). In “Atlantis,” viewers saw the Gorgeous House of Gucci being eliminated after a fierce final battle between Jeter Gucci and Makaylah Lanvin. Later that Thursday, Jeter Gucci wrote in a tweet what can be considered a justification as to why his performance in the battle didn’t live up to Makaylah’s, revealing that he “performed & battled to save [his] house while having COVID-19.” The House of Gucci member also explained that this was the reason why viewers didn’t see more of him throughout the episode. It is certainly shocking to learn that Jeter Gucci was allowed to film one more episode of Legendary despite his diagnosis. In the tweet, Jeter mentions that the production team “forgot to mention” his diagnosis, which indicates that the producers were aware of his diagnosis and allowed him to compete anyway. Moreover, if the show’s production company was aware of Jeter’s diagnosis, it is also of note that HBO Max decided to cut this storyline from the episode. With that said, the Legendary season 1 finale indicated that it was filmed in March 2020. If that was also the case for the semifinals, it is likely that it was still too early in the coronavirus pandemic for the Legendary production team to grasp the seriousness of COVID-19.

Nonetheless, Legendary fans received good news this week when HBO Max announced that the series had been renewed for a second season and was going to move to Los Angeles. However, considering the ongoing stricter rules that Hollywood has set for filming TV shows and movies during this COVID-19 pandemic, it is possible that Legendary season 2 will have more changes than simply moving to a new city.
