Jimmy Kimmel & James Corden Filming From Home Again Due To COVID-19 Surge
Jimmy Kimmel and James Corden will return to filming their late-night shows from home amid coronavirus concerns. Last March, amid the coronavirus outbreak, all late-night talk shows, including NBC’s Tonight Show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and Real Time with Bill Maher, opted to film without live studio audiences, and eventually transitioned to filming remotely from the hosts’ homes, garages, and vacant studios. Recently, Los Angeles county, where Kimmel and Corden’s programs are filmed, witnessed a drastic surge in COVID-19 cases, leaving the late-night hosts to workshop how to keep their popular shows in production.
Per The Wrap, Kimmel and Corden will resume filming their late-night talk shows remotely from home. Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which normally films at the El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Blvd, will tape from Kimmel’s home for the first two weeks of the year. Corden, host of The Late Late Show took to Twitter to reveal his innovative at-home set up to film from his garage “until it’s safe to return to our studio.”
Opening his first show of 2021 with a monologue delivered from his living room, Kimmel continues to make the best of the situation and has an impressive guest list on the docket for the first week of filming, including Jim Parsons, Elizabeth Olsen, and Paul Bettany. Of course, live audiences have always been a staple element of the late-night genre. Thriving – or failing – off of live-viewers’ laughter, reactions, and energy is what late-night hosts have always used to set the tone for the show’s broadcast. However, Kimmel and Corden are seasoned professionals who have proven they can utilize the current circumstances to deliver comedic relief and quality late-night talk shows.
