The finale of the show brought in nearly 40 million viewers and thrust Evan unexpectedly into stardom. Back then, Evan had been working as a construction worker making $19,000 a year. For the entirety of the show, however, he had to tell the women that he had inherited $50 million. Evan and his 20 contestants were taken to a chateau in France. He went on a series of dates with the women before picking substitute teacher Zora Andrich. Zora said that she was relieved to learn he was not wealthy because that intimidated her. Nonetheless, Zora said that she loved Evan regardless of his money, and the couple won the bonus prize of $1 million as a result.

For the next couple of years, Evan and Zora were household names, even when they split shortly after the show ended. Evan became the host of a game show in 2004 and appeared in several commercials, becoming something of a celebrity. Evan also briefly worked as an underwear model.
