Pitch Meeting takes aim on 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. The Keanu Reeves action franchise upped the ante with the third entry, including more villains, more locations, more action, and more assassin “doohickey’s.” Keanu Reeves stars as John Wick, the reluctant, yet unstoppable assassin on a mission to clear his name through an intricate underground assassin league, an endeavor that has stretched through three films and will continue for more sequels and spinoffs in the years to come.

John Wick: Chapter 3 had Wick traversing the globe to call in a number of favors and make some deals that would keep him in the good graces of the league, but not without some help (or hindrance) from the supporting cast, including Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Halle Berry (and her loyal combat dogs), Asia Kate Dillon, Saïd Taghmaoui, Anjelica Huston, Jerome Flynn, Jason Mantzoukas, and The Raid’s Yayan Ruhian. Written by Derek Kolstad, who created the franchise, the film is directed by Chad Stahelski, who co-directed the first film and directed parts 2 and 3, as well as the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4.

In the latest episode of Pitch Meeting, host Ryan George tackles the insanity of John Wick: Chapter 3, as well as the tropes that have developed over the course of the franchise thus far. From over-the-top, finely choreographed action to John Wick’s seeming immortality to the constant use of objects and trinkets to call in favors throughout the assassin league that seem never-ending, John Wick has set up a universe of oddities that make it both amazing and ridiculous at once. With so much to love, it’s hard to tease John Wick, but there are definitely some questionable implausibilities brought up that make for a good chuckle, while never interfering with the outright appreciation for the beloved shoot-em-up series. Check out the Pitch Meeting below:

Keanu Reeves is just coming off his fourth turn as Neo in The Matrix Resurrections, which was a divisive entry in The Matrix franchise. The actor has a number of projects lined up, including more John Wick, a voice role in the animated DC League of Super-Pets, and an adaptation of his comic book BRZRKR. In addition, Reeves just closed a deal to star in his first-ever TV project, an adaptation of Erik Larson’s The Devil in the White City for Hulu.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum managed to outpace the prior films in terms of action and scope, which is no easy feat given the sheer amount of carnage that ensued in those prior entries. However, as the action evolved, so too did some of the more silly and extreme tropes of the film, that border on parody at times. Still, one of the coolest aspects of the series is that it creates its own world with its own rules, however odd, and owns them earnestly, which makes the viewer believe and get sucked into this wild action franchise that’s become a household name. John Wick: Chapter 4 will hit theaters on March 24, 2023.
