It’s no understatement to say that Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is responsible for creating one of the most iconic villains in all of manga and anime. The vampire Dio is such a huge part of the series that his presence can be felt throughout the pages of the manga long after his death in Part 3: Stardust Crusaders. Of course, this is not surprising, considering that his name literally means “God.” A new gender-flipped cosplay found online depicts Dio in an even more frightful manner.

Dio Brando grew up in the harshest of conditions, causing him to seek out riches and absolute power. He becomes a vampire but is defeated by his foster brother, Jonathan Joestar. This defeat was short lived, as Dio’s will kept him alive and after Jonathan’s death, he attached his head to his Jonathan’s body. Dio later went on to acquire a Stand, a metaphysical being that allows him to stop time for a few seconds. He is ultimately defeated by Jonathan’s great-great-grandson, Jotaro, in an impressive battle in Egypt.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Dio wanted nothing more than to be a god, but a new cosplay found on Instagram changes him into a goddess. User rainydaysensei creates a gender-flipped version of the character, and she captures every aspect of Dio’s design perfectly. Her flamboyant green and gold outfit makes her pop and stand out, just like Dio would have wanted. Gone, however, is Dio’s maniacal grin, but really, it’s not needed. Her beckoning the viewer forward while she tilts her head back is enough to strike fear into the hearts of her opponents. Rainydaysensei has cosplayed a slew of other JJBA characters such as Jolyne Kujo, Caesar Zeppeli, and Kars.

As with many cosplays, this one is full of tiny details that are true to the character and add to the immersivity. The scar on her neck is faint yet present, but blending into the blurry background is left turn sign with “6-12” on it. Casual viewers might look past this as just part of the background, but true JJBA fans will notice that it’s the same sign that Dio attempted to cut Jotaro’s head off with. These details might be small, but they are what can make a good cosplay become a great cosplay.

Rainydaysensei recreated the iconic villain in all his grandeur in her depiction, in something that surely Dio himself would admire. He might have been defeated in the manga, but his shadow still looms throughout the following parts, often serving as the driving force of the plot. It’s a good thing that this is just a wonderful Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure cosplay, and not the real Dio.
