Joseph Gordon-Levitt responds to the idea of returning for a DCEU team-up movie. Back in 2012, Gordon-Levitt starred in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight threequel as John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop. However, the film’s final moments set him up for a much larger role, as his legal name is revealed to be Robin, and he is gifted the means to take over the Batman mantle as Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne lives a peaceful life of retirement in Florence.

Considering The Dark Knight Rises was the final film in Nolan’s trilogy, Blake’s storyline ended on an ambiguous note rather than being explored further. Warner Bros. then decided to move forward with a shared DC Universe under a separate continuity from the Dark Knight trilogy. The DCEU began in 2013 with Man of Steel, written by Christopher Nolan and directed by Zack Snyder. Ben Affleck was later cast as Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but Snyder recently revealed that he once considered bringing Gordon-Levitt back as Batman instead. Now, the actor is responding to the idea of an entirely new DCEU team-up.

During an interview on Jake’s Takes promoting his new Apple TV+ series Mr. Corman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was asked if he would be interested in playing Robin or Nightwing alongside Batfleck and Michael Keaton’s version of Bruce Wayne in the upcoming DCEU-multiverse movie, The Flash. Gordon-Levitt responded to the question in a candid and unintentionally hilarious way, saying, “To be perfectly honest, [I’m] completely out of touch with everything you just said.” Check out the original post below, per Fandom:

For those who may be unfamiliar like Gordon-Levitt, the DCEU’s Flash movie is currently in production from director Andy Muschietti. The film is set to adapt the time-traveling Flashpoint storyline and star Sasha Calle as Supergirl and two versions of Batman in Affleck and Keaton, which has only increased speculation about The Flash springboarding the DCEU’s own multiverse. This could hypothetically allow other characters from past franchises, such as Gordon-Levitt as Robin/Nightwing, to return as well.

Though it appears Gordon-Levitt has no knowledge or interest in a return of this kind, it’s not an inherently crazy idea given that Keaton is returning from Tim Burton’s past Batman franchise. Chris McKay, who was going to be helming the scrapped Nightwing movie for Warner Bros., recently teased that Nightwing could find his way to the big screen soon thanks to the multiverse. Whether or not this happens in the DCEU’s Flash movie remains to be seen.
