During D23 Expo 2022, Disney provided a first look at Jude Law’s character in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Set after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is an upcoming live-action series expected to premiere on Disney+ next year. The series will join other popular Star Wars shows already on the streamer, including the likes of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will follow a group of kids lost in space as they attempt to find their way home, with Law’s casting in the show announced earlier this year. The series will have Jon Watts, director of Tom Holland’s MCU Spider-Man trilogy, as creator and executive producer, with Spider-Man: Homecoming writer Chris Ford penning the scripts. Other than Law, no other cast members for the series have been announced. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will mark the second major franchise that Law has joined recently, with the actor having just taken on the role of Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore earlier this year.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Now, the first image of Law’s character has been released at Disney’s D23 Expo, which Screen Rant is attending. The image doesn’t reveal too much about Law’s character, but it appears that he may be standing before some kind of spacecraft. Other younger characters can also be seen behind him in the background, but their faces are obscured. Check out the new image of Law below:

Although specific plot details for the upcoming Star Wars show remain under wraps, the new image does at least suggest that Law’s character may be in a leadership role with a younger group of kids. The actor previously revealed that he’s been a fan of Star Wars since he was a kid, hinting that the upcoming series may even feature a few surprise appearances from original characters from the franchise. With no concrete release date set, it’s unfortunately still unclear when a trailer for the new show will be released.

Law has starred in a number of notable films over the course of his career, including Sherlock Holmes, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Captain Marvel, and his casting in the show will likely be a strong draw for many audiences. It remains to be seen how Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will compare to the likes of The Mandalorian or Obi-Wan Kenobi, but the show’s large budget and talented creative team suggest Disney is confident the project will be a hit. Although it’s unclear when Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will be released in 2023, fans of Law are evidently experiencing an exciting few years.
