Dania Ramirez is the newest actress to be cast in Jumanji 3. The original Jumanji centered around two children who accidentally brought elements of a magical board game into the real world. More than 20 years later, Sony decided to release a sequel called Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which showed the main characters being sucked into a video game called Jumanji.

Back in April 2018, Dwayne Johnson confirmed that Jumanji 3 was moving forward. The official plot synopsis hasn’t been revealed for the film just yet, but director Jake Kasdan did reveal that Jumanji 3 would have more connections to the original film than the first sequel did. As fans may remember, the only easter egg to Robin Williams character in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was a shelter that Alan Parrish had built during his time stuck in the game. Jumanji 3 is currently in production, but a new member of the cast has just been announced.

According to Deadline, Ramirez is the latest actress to join the cast of Jumanji 3. Ramirez is most known for her role on ABC’s Once Upon a Time as Cinderella, but she also played the character Callisto in X-Men: The Last Stand. Much like the other actors who have been cast in Jumanji 3, Ramirez’s role is being kept under wraps at this time.

While Ramirez is the most recent addition to the cast, she is hardly the first announcement. The high school kids from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle are returning for the sequel, as well as the game avatars who were played by Johnson, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart. Nick Jonas has also been confirmed as a cast member for Jumanji 3. As for new characters, Sony has hired some big named actors for roles in Jumanji 3 such as Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, and Awkwafina.

When Sony announced they were making a sequel to the 1995 Jumanji, many fans worried that a sequel might tarnish the reputation of the beloved Robin Williams film. Despite the initial worries, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle received mostly positive reviews and even grew to become Sony’s highest grossing film ever. Sony is no doubt hoping to repeat their success at the box office this holiday season, despite going up against the newest Star Wars film. Ramirez may not be as big of a star as DeVito or Glover just yet, but her addition to the cast will likely still excite people who are a fan of her previous work. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle held it’s own against Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and forging a talented cast for Jumanji 3 may be Sony’s best chance to compete with Star Wars: Episode IX this December.
