The Justice League Snyder Cut has gotten a bizarre new promotion in the form of a meal kit with themed dishes tied to different DC characters. The long-awaited director’s cut will release on HBO Max on March 18, finally allowing fans to see Snyder’s unadulterated vision for the DCEU’s superhero team-up.  Snyder’s new version was originally planned as a four-part miniseries but has since been changed to a single extended film.

For years after Justice League’s theatrical release, fans cried for Snyder’s intended version of the movie to be released. That loyal following has only gotten more zealous since the Snyder Cut was confirmed to be coming to HBO Max, and the interim months have seen all manner of promotional materials to raise the excitement even higher. A new black and white trailer, posters paying homage to classic comics, and more have flooded the internet as the Synder Cut’s release approaches.

The latest Snyder Cut tie-in is a bit less orthodox – a meal kit, orderable by fans to ship to their homes, featuring special dishes connected to various Justice League characters. The “Mother Box” kit, currently available for preorder from Wonderland, starts at a base cost of $130 for two people or $260 for four. The box is available for delivery starting Thursday, April 15 – almost a full month after the Snyder Cut is set to debut on HBO Max. Dishes include Ocean Trench – “Icelandic cod and chips with trench dressing” – and The Big Belly Burger – “An infamous fast food burger from the DC universe, served with condiments.” Other listed dishes have no descriptions listed, encouraging fans to “Follow us for the reveal!”

At best, the Wonderland Mother Box is an odd choice for a superhero promotion. The cost isn’t completely outrageous at $65 per person, but it’s certainly pricey. Food tie-ins for blockbuster films and comic book adaptations aren’t new by any means, but $130 is a far cry from the fast food toys and special offers that have been the norm historically.

It’s also odd that the Mother Box meal kit won’t be available until a month after the Snyder Cut’s release. The Wonderland page has the film’s trailer embedded, making it clear which movie the box is supposed to connect to. Warner Bros. surely hopes Snyder’s Justice League will remain a popular topic weeks out from its release, but it still seems like an earlier launch for the meal kit would have made more sense. Regardless, fans will be able to enjoy their own Justice League-inspired make-at-home dishes starting April 15.
