Karl Urban welcomed Jensen Ackles to The Boys in a new behind-the-scenes photo celebrating the halfway mark of shooting season 3. Ackles is joining the hit Amazon series as Soldier Boy, a character that makes The Boys darker according to Mother’s Milk actor Laz Alonso. Fortunately, the series is no stranger to darkness. The Boys season 2 took the series to bloody new heights, featuring a congresswoman with powers that make people’s heads explode and a very bloody incident with a beached whale. The third season is looking to take the series to an even crazier level, though.

From adapting The Boys comics arc “Herogasm” to even more blood being used on the set than the previous season, all signs point to season 3 upping the ante. After the events of the season 2 finale, Homelander is more unhinged than ever and just when the titular team may think they’re in the clear, it’s obvious that they’ll be pulled back into the world of Supes once again. While the overarching plot remains unclear, the Billy Butcher actor took to Instagram to tease the new season.

Urban posted a photo celebrating the arrival of Ackles to the set and his new character, Soldier Boy, to the show. The actor says that the cast and crew is “having such a blast” shooting the third season, which he reveals is about halfway done. Urban promises that the season is “next level diabolical” and expressed his excitement for when fans finally get to see it. Check out the photo below:

Right now, The Boys season 3 has no premiere date, but seeing as Urban indicates they are about halfway done, it’s possible that it could bow before the end of the year. While it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that has seen the show, Urban’s promise that the next entry will be just as diabolical as the last is an exciting one. The show is populated by a cast of characters with very loose morals, but with Ackles’ Soldier Boy, even Homelander may be given a run for his money.

In the comics, Solider Boy maintains an air of naïveté in the face of his horrific acts, including mass murder. Soldier Boy uses this naïveté to become a different kind of villain, one who stands in stark contrast to season 2’s antagonist, Stormfront, who may not be returning to The Boys. How that will play out in the series is a mystery, but it’s sure to be a wild ride. The Boys will continue to up the ante for its third season and viewers might need to prepare for what’s in store.
