A new trailer for DC League of Super-Pets reveals Keanu Reeves’ animated Batman and teases his bond with Ace the Bat-Hound. This weekend has seen the arrival of a dark and gritty DC film, but the next project on the property’s radar is far more lighthearted. Set to premiere in May, DC League of Super-Pets will put the spotlight on the actual superheroes that matter: The Justice League’s adorable companions. Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart lead the starry ensemble as Krypto the Superdog and Ace the Bat-Hound, respectively, the pets of Superman (John Krasinski) and Batman.

DC League of Super-Pets has been in the works since 2018, and though it was initially scheduled to premiere in 2021, it later shifted to this year. The film finds the Justice League’s pets stepping into the roles of superheroes after the legendary team is kidnapped by Lex Luthor (Marc Maron). The DC League of Super-Pets lineup includes Green Lantern’s squirrel Chip (Diego Luna), the Flash’s turtle Merton (Natasha Lyonne), and Wonder Woman’s pig PB (Vanessa Bayer).

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Seemingly in honor of the recent release of The Batman, Warner Bros. Pictures unveiled a new trailer for DC League of Super-Pets that puts the spotlight firmly on Batman and his equally dramatic pet. Reeves voices the iconic character here, and just hearing him makes one wish he could also play Batman in live-action. Check out the trailer down below.

Batman has been played and voiced by numerous actors over the years. With this weekend’s The Batman, Robert Pattinson slips on the cowl in a twisted detective story that couldn’t be farther from the brighter take that’s bound to be seen in DC League of Super-Pets. As the above trailer shows, Reeves’ Batman still has his darker side, but even he isn’t immune to the love only a dog can provide. DC League of Super-Pets also seems more willing to poke fun at Batman’s overall image, with Reeves at one point declaring that he works alone… except for when it’s with Robin, or Alfred, or “whoever Morgan Freeman played.”

Obviously, since DC League of Super-Pets is an animated tale geared more towards families, it isn’t surprising that the movie would bring a lighter touch to the normally tortured hero. Audiences might be used to seeing a very serious Bruce Wayne, but DC League of Super-Pets will switch that around. Reeves is an excellent choice for the part, and there’s little question that fans will be delighted to hear him in the role. From this trailer alone, he makes a pretty awesome Batman, and it might even fuel calls for Reeves to get his own Dark Knight movie sometime in the future. For now, though, this is the only way those dreams will come true.
