The Lionsgate panel of CinemaCon reveals that Keanu Reeves is currently filming John Wick: Chapter 4 in three different countries. Alongside Reeves, the fourth installment in the hit action franchise will see the returns of Laurence Fishburne as The Bowery King, Lance Reddick as Charon, the concierge of the New York Continental Hotel, and Ian McShane as its manager Winston. The film will also see the additions of franchise newcomers Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, Bill Skarsgård, Hiroyuki Sanada, Scott Adkins and Clancy Brown.

Though plot details are still unknown for John Wick: Chapter 4, the film is expected to pick up from the finale of its predecessor in which Winston seemingly betrays John for fealty to the High Table and is shot and left for dead. However, he was subsequently saved by a similarly-wounded Bowery King and offered an alliance to bring down the High Table. Initially set for a 2021 release, John Wick: Chapter 4 was delayed to next year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Reeves’ commitment to The Matrix Resurrections, although with the Warner Bros. film having wrapped in November and a trailer already having been shown at CinemaCon, it appears Reeves is back in action for his latest hit franchise.

As the Lionsgate panel kicked off at this week’s CinemaCon, Aaron Couch, editor of The Hollywood Reporter‘s Heat Vision Blog, took to Twitter with the studio’s update from John Wick: Chapter 4. Lionsgate confirmed that production is still ongoing for the action sequel with Reeves shooting in three different countries for the film. Check out Couch’s post below:

Though production on John Wick: Chapter 4 was technically revealed to have started in late June, this is the first proper confirmation that Reeves is shooting the film. While the first three installments of the franchise have been primarily set in and around the New York City area, the story has seen Wick travel internationally in his journey for revenge and re-retirement, with John Wick: Chapter 2 taking the action to Rome for a brief period and John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum seeing Wick fleeing to Morocco. Given the new cast members joining the film, namely Mortal Kombat‘s Sanada, it should be interesting to see how these locations factor into the story and characters.

The expanded location roster for John Wick: Chapter 4 certainly hints at a larger scale than already seen in the previous films. With the fourquel finding Reeves’ titular hitman and Fishburne’s Bowery King gearing up to take on the High Table, these locations could work to introduce the members seated at the mysterious organization in their home territories, or potentially Wick enlisting the help of like-minded compatriots to bring them down. Only time will tell when the film hits theaters on May 27, 2022.
