Kelly Clarkson has taken her talk show on the road, and during her New York stop for the premiere, The Voice coach covered Taylor Swift. The Kelly Clarkson Show premiered in 2019 and has been a massive success with celebrity guests like Elvis actor Austin Butler and fellow The Voice coach John Legend. The talk show world has been slowly evolving in recent years, with Ellen DeGeneres and Wendy Williams both ending their time on the air and celebrities like Kelly and actress Drew Barrymore successfully drawing in audiences to their modern approach. There have also been many old talk show clips resurfacing of hosts like David Letterman treating his guests very inappropriately. Viewers would much rather watch stars like Idol alum Kelly treat their guests with respect.

Since Kelly is a powerhouse vocalist and the first-ever winner of American Idol, it’s no surprise she incorporates music into her show. Kellyoke has become a fan-favorite segment of her talk show, so much so that Kelly released a cover album called Kellyoke in June. The album included a cover of Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever,” which Kelly also performed on her show. Kelly also performed a singing competition game with actress Anne Hathaway where both women had to guess which song was playing and then finish singing it. Kelly fell to the floor when Anne recognized her 2004 single “Since U Been Gone” before she did.

Kelly’s talk show is back again, and she celebrated The Kelly Clarkson Show season 4 with a special performance of Taylor’s 2014 hit. Much like The Kelly Clarkson Show season 1 premiere, Kelly incorporated an intro video which transformed into a live performance to get fans excited for the season premiere. Instead of filming in L.A., The Kelly Clarkson Show season 4 premiere took place in Manhattan, which is why Kelly included Taylor’s song “Welcome To New York,” from her 2014 album 1989. The song became a New York anthem after its release and even gained the popstar the title of New York tourism ambassador.

Kelly started out her performance with Willie Nelson’s “On The Road Again,” as she boarded her tour bus and headed toward the east coast. Kelly took a break, got off the bus and put on a performance of Madonna’s “Music” before getting back on the bus and singing Aretha Franklin’s “Freeway Of Love” all the way to the Manhattan studio. The intro of Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” played as Kelly sat at her dressing room vanity before transitioning to Taylor’s single and making her way to the live studio audience, making “Welcome To New York” the first live Kellyoke performance of the season.

After spending the summer searching the country for talented singers to join her during Kellyoke, Kelly and fans are thrilled that The Kelly Clarkson Show is back on the air. With a lot of great television shows, albums and movies being released in the upcoming months, there are plenty of celebrities who might appear on Kelly’s talk show. Taylor announced at the 2022 VMAs that her new album will be dropping on October 21, and being a guest on Kelly’s show would be a great way to celebrate its release. But what fans are most excited about is seeing all the great songs The Voice coach plans to perform this season.

The Voice season 22 premieres September 19 at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.
