Kids Baking Championship: Everything To Know About Host Duff Goldman

Duff Goldman is a Kids Baking Championship host, and we’re here to share information about the reality celeb. Duff is a Food Network darling. He has served as a judge on nearly every Baking Championship, from Holiday to Spring, and has gone toe-to-toe with Buddy Valastro of Cake Boss fame (Buddy opened up about recovery from his bowling-related injury, and is relieved that he can still bake.) Duff has had quite a unique life and an unconventional baking journey. Born Jeffrey Goldman, Duff gained his nickname when his little brother was unable to pronounce his proper name and called him “Duffy.” Duff’s mother would later appear on the Mother’s Day episode of Spring Baking Championship and praise “Duffy’s” keen eye, much to judge Chef Lorraine Pascale’s amusement. They teased him about it before they reminded him he was a judge (and a good one).

Indeed, the show would have upsets and predictions about the most likely 2020 Kids Baking Championship winner. Before he reached that point, however, Duff started working in kitchens at the age of 14, in a bagel store and a McDonald’s. He wanted to go beyond standard graffiti, so his mother enrolled him in an art college at the age of fourteen. Duff later pursued a culinary degree. At a restaurant called Charleston, a chef hired him (on probation) to make cornbread and biscuits. He would go on to open Charm City Cakes, his signature bakery, in 2002. His company grew from a home business to a professional venture. Duff now employs dozens of assistants. He would later transition to television and write several cookbooks. He is married to Johnna Colbry, and they share a daughter.

The Kids Baking Championship spinoff sounds promising, with a Halloween theme and some fan-favorite chefs returning. As Duff has constantly returned to judge bakes for each spinoff, he will likely be there, ready to taste (and make jokes about how these kids may run him out of business). Fans of Kids Baking Championship generally appreciate Duff. Viewers saw the previous season in 2018, and the show then went on hiatus until season nine in December 2020. The spinoff is a return to form, as four previous contestants will come back to the kitchen. According to an official press release from Discovery, they’ll have to navigate a pumpkin patch to master candy-stuffed cake.

Duff Is A Reality TV Staple

Duff has spent more than twenty years doing food-themed television. He premiered in 2006 with Ace of Cakes. Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro would make his mark appearing on the show to compete. When Ace of Cakes got canceled, Duff declared war on Buddy, who has an interesting backstory The pair’s rivalry has persisted to the point where they got a spinoff show titled Buddy Vs. Duff. Viewers are split about how much of the rivalry is done for the show and to boost ratings. Indeed, the pair declared that they had become friends while filming season three.

In addition to his judging, Duff believes in maintaining standards for taste and decoration. He likes presenting unconventional flavors at Charm City Cakes. While hosting, Duff convinces contestants that they should go outside the box and remember to hone their presentation and final taste. If someone tries to claim an obvious mistake was intentional, he gives them a knowing look. That look coaxes a laugh out of them during judging. Sometimes viewers may disagree with the decisions, such as when Laurent Carratie was eliminated from Spring Baking Championship, but they can understand the reasoning. His return to the other Baking Championships cannot come soon enough.
