Kim Kardashian Declared Single After Winning Divorce Petition

Kim Kardashian has scored another victory in her ongoing divorce from Kanye West after The Kardashians star was declared legally single. Kim and Kanye’s divorce proceedings have been nothing but complicated, as the two trade barbs on social media. Kanye has also reportedly fired countless lawyers throughout the process, slowing things down, and has even filed to get their prenuptial agreement declared invalid. But now, things are seemingly moving ahead in Kim’s favor.

Kim has been attempting to end her third marriage since filing for divorce from Kanye in February 2021. Kanye hasn’t made the divorce easy and is now on his fourth divorce lawyer since embarking on the split. Kanye hasn’t hidden his desire to repair his marriage and win Kim back. But the SKIMS founder has only moved forward with her petition while continuing to date comedian Pete Davidson. Kanye appears to be accepting defeat and facing the harsh reality that Kim no longer wants to be with him.

On Wednesday, Kim appeared for a video court hearing where she had her single status restored, TMZ reports. During the appearance, a judge granted Kim’s request to drop “West” from her name and go back to her maiden name, Kim Kardashian. Kanye did not appear for the hearing but had his lawyer share his three conditions for restoring Kim’s single status. “Any right to get reimbursement of money that’s supposed to be divided up will be preserved in case either of them dies,” Kanye’s lawyer requested. A judge granted the condition but denied two others Kanye tried to have implemented that would prevent Kim from transferring any assets she had in trust, and if Kim remarries she would waive the “marital privilege.”

Kim’s newly single status comes after she first had it granted back in December after first filing to become legally single. Kim made the move due to Kanye’s slow response to her initial divorce filing. Kanye spent weeks trying to get Kim’s attention on social media. She even filed to become legally single one day after Kanye’s benefit concert with Drake where he begged for her to “run back” to him. After sending out a series of posts bashing Pete on Instagram, Kanye appears to have gotten the point that Kim doesn’t want him back. She cited his erratic social media in her recent filing saying Kanye’s online behavior has caused her “emotional distress.“

With Kim dropping “West” from her name, she’s showing Kanye that the end is here. The former couple is one step closer to finalizing their ongoing divorce but they still have to figure out custody arrangements for their four children. Kanye has already purchased a home directly across the street from Kim and the kids, so distance shouldn’t be an issue. The Kardashians star is no stranger to going through public divorces. This is her third and she has a long history with divorce lawyer Laura Wasser to make sure things work out in their favor. With Kanye and Kim signing a prenup years ago, it should make the remainder of their divorce go smoothly. That is unless Kanye has something to say.
