Kim Kardashian has worked long and hard to maintain her superstar status, but long before she became a self-made billionaire, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star worked for singer Brandy and faced some serious allegations related to credit card fraud. In a recent Twitter thread, people were reminded about the time when Kim got sued by the mother of her ex-boyfriend, Sonja Norwood.

Many people associate the relationship between Kim and Ray J with their infamous 2007 sex tape. It leaked in the months leading up to her family’s reality show debut later that year. However, prior to hooking up with the R&B singer, she worked as his older sister’s stylist. Kim and Khloe Kardashian were rising up the ranks in Hollywood in any way that they could, and snagged jobs working for the singer/actress Brandy. Kim was her stylist, whereas Khloe worked as her personal assistant. However, things ended on a messy note when Brandy’s mom accused Kim and Khloe of running up her credit card to $120,000.

One Twitter user went viral over the week after they shared a “fun fact” about the KKW Beauty founder. The original poster wrote, “This was one Kim K’s early ‘hustles.’ She stole and ran up Brandy’s credit card.” Someone else replied to the tweet and added a screenshot of the original lawsuit report by People. “Accurate. In 2008, Khloe was Brandy’s ‘Assistant’ & Kim was her ‘Stylist,’ but their mother sued them for unauthorized charges over $120,000 on her credit card. They admitted they used the card to help stock & open their stores Dash & Smooch, but settled out of court.” Both tweets can be found below.

When looking into the lawsuit, Brandy’s mom and manager claimed to have given Kim an American Express card for one approved purchase in 2004. However, Norwood accused her of making unauthorized purchases between 2006 and 2007 and passing the card off to her siblings, who reportedly made even more unauthorized purchases. Norwood went on to claim that some of the purchases were to stock items in “two Kardashian family-owned clothing stores, Dash and Smooch, for a total of $120,636,” the report read.

The Kardashian-Jenner family’s lawyer released a statement at the time denying the allegations. “Both Kim and Khloe were employed by the Norwoods and never used their credit cards without their express authorization. The Kardashian family looks forward to proving the absurdity of these claims in a court of law,” the lawyer declared. In June 2009, one year after filing the suit, Norwood requested that the suit be dismissed with prejudice, leading to the strong possibility that the issue was settled outside of court. Looks like Kim and the Keeping Up With The Kardashians clan have come a long way since working under other artists.
