Kim’s Convenience introduces us to the colorful Kim family and their friends and colleagues we meet along the way. Appa and Umma may be the stars of the show but Jung Kim and his best friend Kimchee have just as much as a presence on the show as Jung’s parents.

It’s been noted that Jung never graduated high school with the rest of his class and got into some trouble as a teen, which caused a rift between him and his family. But thanks to his best friend Kimchee, Jung got a job at Handy, a place to live, and was on his way to a more successful life. But were these two best friends always good to each other? Not by a long shot. Keep scrolling to see five times Kimchee was a bad friend (and five times Jung was).

10 Kimchee Takes Advantage Of Jung’s Managerial Status

Kimchee is the one who got Jung his job at Handy but when Jung started showing real promise in the workplace, he was given a managerial role next to Shannon. Instead of being supportive of Jung getting on his own two feet, Kimchee became jealous and manipulative.

He started acting like he was the assistant to the assistant manager and that he couldn’t be reprimanded because he was Jung’s best friend. Jung had to have an uncomfortable conversation with Kimchee in order to make their new roles work but it shouldn’t have had to get to that level.

9 Jung Takes All Of Kimchee’s Crushes

Kimchee and Jung may be best friends but they’re completely different. Jung is taller than Kimchee but he doesn’t have the same degrees as Kimchee. When it comes to the ladies, Jung gets more women, which annoys Kimchee. Whenever Kimchee has a crush or has eyes on a woman, they always want more of Jung instead.

In one episode, Kimchee starts seeing a woman he met on a dating app and begs Jung to act like the worst version of himself so that she wouldn’t be attracted to him. In the end, she was actually never attracted to Jung but seeing how crazy Kimchee was acting made her end all communication with him.

7 Jung Ruined Kimchee’s Sneakers

In the second season, viewers learn that Kichee has an extensive sneaker collection. He keeps them in great condition and has a different sneak for each occasion.

As he’s cleaning a pair, Jung jokes around with Kimchee and acts like he’s going to get burrito juices on his new pair of sneaks. Kimchee didn’t think it was funny but Jung went too far when he actually got red sauce on Kimchee’s shoe. Jung then spent the whole day trying to find Kinchee a new pair of sneakers for half price but if he didn’t joke around to begin with, he’d be a richer man.

6 Kimchee Didn’t Try To Save Dougie

In the fourth season, Shannon sees a bird fly into Jung’s window and becomes injured. Not sure what to do, Shannon and Jung keep the dove in a box before finding a cafe for it. Shannon grew attached to the morning dove and named him Dougie.

The name caught on and Jung became incredibly protective of the little bird. But when the bird wouldn’t stop talking, Kimchee put a towel over the cage and pushed the cage in Jung’s room. When Jung found Dougie, the little bird was barely alive.

Jung quits in a huff after Shannon turned him down but he acted hastily. He evened up not getting the job but was too proud to say anything to Kimchee.

Jung lied about going to work every day and didn’t tell him about being down on his luck until re-interviewing at Handy again.

4 Their House Party Was A Wreck

In the second season, Kimchee and Jung decide to throw a house party but it doesn’t go as expected. But with the couch being brand new, Jung didn’t want anyone drinking or eating on it.

Jung’s plan for an adult party fails after Kimchee kicked a glass of wine over on the couch to spite Jung for breaking for dog statue in front of the whole party.

3 Jung Chose Shannon Over Kimchee

In the episode “Apanticitis,” Jung and Kimchee want to send a tape to a competitive TV show for the chance at beating other duos in a race. Jung and Kimchee knew each other for a long time and would make perfect teammates but after Shannon hints at wanting to be teammates with Jung, Jung switches teams.

He makes videos with both people and ended up choosing to work with Shannon after Kimchee found out. Sadly for Jung, Shannon didn’t think it would be smart for the two of them to work together so he had to work with Kimchee because it was his only choice.

2 Kimchee Meddles In Jung’s Family Life

It’s clear Kimchee has a special bond with Jung and his family. They’ve been friends for years and both men have taken care of each other. But there were one too many times where Kimchee meddled in Jung’s private affairs.

He stayed with Jung’s parents when there was a water leak in their apartment, he asked Appa to join their beer-league soccer team (and then got mad when he was making too much of an impact), and he eats all of Umma’s food when she drops it off for Jung. Kimchee is a great guy but he sure doesn’t know his limits.

1 Jung Stole Kimchee’s Gift For Gwen

When Shannon and Jung finally start dating, Jung doesn’t want to mess it up. On their five-week anniversary, Shannon bought Jung a silly toy car that reminded her of her first time meeting Jung.

At a loss for words, Jung didn’t want Shannon to be empty-handed so he grabbed Kimchee’s gift for Gwen and gave it to Shannon. The only problem is the necklace was almost $1,000 and it was way too nice of a gift for a new couple.
