Knuckles chases Sonic down a mountain and fights the protagonist in a new Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie clip ahead of the film’s release. Knuckles the Echidna makes his live-action debut in the upcoming sequel with Idris Elba voicing the fan-favorite character. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will see the returns of Ben Schwartz in the titular role alongside James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Shemar Moore, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails and Jim Carrey as Doctor Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 picks up sometime after the events of the first film as the SEGA hero attempts to use his powers to become a hero for the world, though finds himself partially grounded when Marsden’s Tom and Sumpter’s Maddie head off to Hawaii for her sister Rachel’s wedding. Though initially enjoying his time alone, Sonic finds his relaxation upended when Doctor Eggman returns to Earth from the mushroom planet with the help of Knuckles with the goal of searching for the Master Emerald to conquer the world. Sonic must team up with his new friend Miles “Tails” Prower in the hopes of stopping Doctor Eggman from getting his hands on the Emerald before it’s too late.

The new Sonic the Hedgehog 2 clip marks an exciting further look at the mountain snowboarding sequence previous marketing for the movie has given glimpses of before. In addition to teasing some exciting action from the scene, the clip also highlights the charming humor to come from Schwartz’s return as Sonic and his interactions with Knuckles in their race for the Master Emerald, including the not-so-subtle Marvel joke of Knuckles as “The Winter Soldier.” The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 clip also offers a nice look at Knuckles’ powers, having the ability to punch through multiple trees and mountains with ease.

Anticipation for Knuckles’ debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has been high since set photos for the film initially pointed towards his inclusion with standees of the character seen alongside Tails and Sonic. Upon Idris Elba’s casting as Knuckles, audience excitement for his appearance further skyrocketed and sparked plenty of discussions across social media, mostly around the humorous potential of Elba to bring a sexy charisma to the character in the film. The wait for his arrival is nearly over as Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which is scoring largely positive early reactions from critics, is set to hit theaters on April 8.
