The story is set in modern-day Japan with a university student as the main character. Despite reaching college, he still hasn’t popped his cherry. His lifelong dream is to finally get himself a girlfriend. Just like any other single university student in Japan, he spends his time trying his luck in mixers. However, his peaceful days of partner hunting takes a sharp turn when he suddenly wakes up beside his girlfriend. But despite now living the life he has always dreamed of, he has no idea how it came into being. What’s worse is that he’s at a total loss. For him, he has just slept and when he woke up, his life has turned 180 degrees. He has somehow managed to get himself a girlfriend and even beats a university thug in a fight.

As part of Kodansha Comics new release announcement last February 3, they announced the arrival of a new series, My Dearest Self With Malice Aforethought, in a tweet. The digital copy of the first volume is already available on their website, while the second volume will come out on March 2. The 70-page first chapter, which is a free preview, tells almost everything the readers have to know about the main character. It turns out that he is the son of a famous serial killer named LL. Because of this, he’s pretty well known around the university. A freelance writer is even stalking him and trying to exploit his past for a possible story. He, however, no longer associates himself with LL. Instead, as he now considers two other people as his parents. Even though he manages to escape the writer, his world is to be rocked again when police find a murder victim exactly as how LL used to operate.

Most of Eiji’s past has already been revealed in the first chapter of the series. However, this doesn’t answer what has happened during the days he has no memory of, and more so, why he blacks out for three days straight and has no memory about it. Since he’s the son of LL, it’s only logical he’ll be a suspect in the murder case. With him not remembering anything that has happened within the three days span he was out, he, himself, can’t say for certain that he hasn’t committed any crime given that he also manages to beat a thug.
