Speaking on NHK Radio, Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima referred to his next game as a AAA title that should appeal to everyone. Next to nothing is known about Kojima’s new game at present, apart from the fact that production will begin this year. The legendary game designer teases his future plans every so often, however, with one such instance pointing to his interest in exploring something experimental and “radical” in nature.

Hideo Kojima’s most recent interactive adventure, Death Stranding, hit store shelves for PS4 in late 2019, then migrated to PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store in mid-2020. The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus served as the game’s leading man, reuniting with the Metal Gear creator after their failed attempt at reviving Silent Hill for Konami. While rumors and speculation suggest the duo will reteam for a Death Stranding sequel, such a project has yet to receive a formal announcement. Whatever Kojima has up his sleeve will no doubt attract eyeballs, regardless of the finer details.

Twitter user Genki_JPN (via Wccftech) translated statements made by Hideo Kojima during a recent interview for the “Wonderful World of Game Music” special on NHK Radio. According to the translator, Kojima said his development team is producing “a big AAA title that everyone will say that they want to play.” He reportedly added that the crew is experiencing setbacks, divulging that Kojima Productions remains small and is having trouble recruiting talent from abroad because of the global pandemic.

The “AAA title” comment seems bold, but Kojima rarely exercises modesty when it comes to discussing his work. Given Kojima’s proven track record, it’s hard to argue that such pride isn’t warranted. Now the question remains when exactly the studio plans on sharing concrete details about whatever comes next.

Kojima Productions hasn’t released a new title in over two years, yet Death Stranding received another lease on life in 2021 courtesy of the Director’s Cut on PS5. This version of the experience added Widescreen Mode, 3D audio, race tracks, and a host of other enhancements. During CES 2022, the company confirmed that a similar iteration will come to PC sometime this spring, complete with Intel’s Xe Super Sampling graphics technology, machine learning tech that bears a lot in common with Nvidia’s DLSS.
