Brittany Wagner is arguably the most popular figure to come out of Last Chance U that wasn’t a player or member of the coaching staff. Starring in the first two seasons of the Netflix docuseries, Wagner was the academic advisor at East Mississippi Community College. Due to her position, she worked closely with members of the EMCC junior college (JUCO) football team. As the series followed the various hurdles faced by the Lions team, Wagner provided support and guidance to many disadvantaged athletes. Her bond with various players like Ronald Ollie and Dakota Allen made her an instant fan-favorite.

By the time Wagner appeared on Last Chance U, the advisor/counselor worked at EMCC for over five years. The Mississippi State grade served as a motherly figure and motivator for students and athletes in need of an extra push. During the 2015 and 2016 seasons in focus for the docuseries, Wagner helped various players get their academics on track to prepare for life after football. She also supported athletes in their goals of going from JUCO to the NFL.

Following two winning seasons at EMCC, Last Chance U moved on to Coach Jason Brown and Independence Community College for season 3. During that time, Wagner left her job at EMCC to move on to new endeavors. Based on her history of making sure her athletes always had pencils for class, Wagner started 10 Thousand Pencils, a consulting company aimed at assisting at-risk youth. Through the company, she meets with high-school and college-level staff to bridge the gaps between them and students in the hope that better relationships will lead to better academic and emotional support. Wagner has also used her past success and connection to Last Chance U to mentor educational institutions.

Brittany Wagner Continues Building On Her Last Chance U Legacy

Aside from 10 Thousand Pencils, Wagner travels around the US as a motivational speaker. Her fame from Last Chance U has given her the opportunity to share her experiences with people who could be facing similar circumstances in academics or sports. Wagner understands the struggles that many young people face when it comes to academic preparedness or the expectations involved in sports like football. She effectively mixes in the lessons she learned at EMCC to inspire others.

Based on the increased exposure of her time on Last Chance U, NFL Hall of Famer Michael Strahan took interest in Wagner’s story. His production company has recently started developing a scripted series based on Wagner’s life, and Courteney Cox is said to be tapped to portray the beloved academic advisor. More recently, Wagner has added to her resume by serving as an adjunct college professor at the University of Montevallo where she currently teaches Event and Sport Management. She may no longer star in a Netflix series, but Wagner still has a bright future ahead.
