A new Last of Us set video shows Joel, Ellie and Tommy together in the post-apocalyptic town of Jackson, Wyoming from the Naughty Dog video games. Based on the 2013 title, the story revolves around Joel, a smuggler living in a post-apocalyptic United States who is tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie, immune to the virus that led to the downfall of the world, across the country. In their journey, the two will encounter Joel’s younger brother Tommy, Joel’s smuggler partner Tess and resistance movement leader Marlene.

Multiple attempts to adapt The Last of Us have occurred since the game first hit shelves in 2013, with a feature film written by the game’s writer and co-director Neil Druckmann and produced by Sam Raimi and an animated short film, both of which were canceled after lingering in development hell. HBO would begin putting together a series in early 2020 with Druckmann set to co-develop and co-write with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin, building its cast earlier this year with Pedro Pascal signing on to star as Joel and Game of Thrones‘ Bella Ramsey as Ellie followed by Gabriel Luna signing on as Tommy. Filming is currently underway on The Last of Us in Canada and now audiences have received an exciting look at the series.

As production continues on the series, a new Last of Us set video has arrived courtesy of The Last of Us Updates on Twitter. The video sees Joel, Ellie and Tommy together walking down the streets of the recreated post-apocalyptic town of Jackson, Wyoming. Check out the set video below:

The Last of Us set video marks the first look at Joel, Ellie and Tommy together for the series, with previous looks from the production only giving glimpses at Pascal and Ramsey’s characters in their game-accurate outfits and locations being used for the show. With the video lacking any audio, it’s unclear the exact nature of the trio’s meeting in the post-apocalyptic Jackson, but judging on the trio’s mannerisms and Tommy leading the way, it seems to point towards him showing off the town to his younger brother and his ward. In the Last of Us games, Tommy was the co-founder of Jackson, having further developed it from its initial small settlement nature with his wife Maria, who is set to appear in the series.

The various Last of Us set videos and photos released thus far have certainly set a bar of anticipation amongst fans of the franchise for its attention to detail bringing the Naughty Dog video games to life. With Druckmann at the helm, both in the writing department and the director’s chair for an unknown number of episodes, the series is on track to be one of the more faithful video game adaptations to grace the screen. Only time will tell when The Last of Us hits HBO sometime in 2022.
