Riot Games is set to update League of Legends, enhancing the look of older champions such as Caitlyn so they match the more recent additions. Players are already looking forward to new League of Legends dragon types that are set to be introduced as part of the Season 12 update later this year. This will mark a new approach to balancing the massively popular MOBA when new items and champions are added to the game.

In less positive news for the title, Riot Games revealed earlier this year that it was removing the cross-team chat function in the game in an effort to curb player toxicity. The all-chat function is to be turned off to stop griefing and trolling in matchmade queues. According to the developer, most of the interactions in the chat were negative rather than positive, meaning that the chat was serving little purpose. While League of Legends is removing this chat, other forms of communication will still be available, including team and end-game chat.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The official League of Legends YouTube page posted a new video teasing the new look for Caitlyn. The Champion Theme footage shows some of the changes being made to the decade-old champion as part of the art and sustainability updates to enhance the look of older champions that were available during the early days of the MOBA. Riot Games didn’t provide any actual in-game screens but the video does give glimpses at concept art for Caitlyn, providing an idea of what players can expect in the upcoming update. At various points, there are character models and splash art for the Arctic Warfare, Resistance, Sherrif, and Headhunter skins among others, all of which are several years old now.

This is not the first time that Riot Games has announced changes to League of Legends in recent times. In October, the developer unveiled a series of new items and runes coming to League of Legends as part of the preseason 2022 changes. The MOBA will now grant an additional 400 health when players use Winter’s Approach, while there are other alterations to the likes of Knight’s Vow, Force of Nature, and Cosmic Drives. As part of the patch, a new rune called First Strike, which will grant extra gold when dealing damage to enemy champions.

League of Legends and Riot Games have both had a lot of bad press in recent times, so it makes sense for the developer to try and gather some positive momentum. Updating the classic champions, which can be more than 10 years old now, is a great way of doing so. It will also ensure that they don’t look so out of place compared to the more recent additions that have better appearances.
