Developer Riot Games has revealed that Tahm Kench, an infamous champion from League of Legends, will be receiving a long-awaited rework. The classic MOBA game released in 2009 as a free-to-play title, and the developers continue to support it with ample updates 12 years on. League of Legends has also spawned a massive esports community of competitive players, teams, and viewers.

Riot Games continues to support League of Legends through updates which add brand-new characters and rework older characters. The latest addition to the game’s roster, Gwen, was released on April 15 as part of Patch 11.8. Referred to as The Hallowed Seamstress, Gwen was once a doll before being transformed into a human by magic. Her abilities allow her to attack enemies with magic scissors, summon a protective mist and slow down enemies by throwing magic needles. Riot also earlier announced that one of League of Legends‘ oldest champions, the turtle-like Rammus, would be receiving an extensive rework in Season 11. The update, which launched on April 3, gave Rammus a new ultimate ability and changed some of his visual effects.

According to Dexerto, classic League of Legends champion Tahm Kench will be receiving a rework in a future udpate. The rework, which is scheduled to release as part of Patch 11.10, will adjust Kench’s ultimate ability and his signature Devour mechanic. The two abilities will be switched, with Abyssal Voyage now being a standard ability and Devour/Regurgitate acting as his ultimate. Abyssal Voyage will now also be faster tp execute but with a shooter range, while Devour will damage enemies or shield to allies. These changes are apparently meant to make Tahm Kench more accessible to new players while still maintaining his high skill ceiling.

Other recent LoL developments include a mobile version, titled League of Legends: Wild Rift, having been released in open beta for iOS and Android devices. The mobile version of the game has several differences compared to the PC version, with faster games and smaller maps meant to more closely conform to a mobile gaming experience. Will Rift also features a streamlined shopping system and a much smaller roster, and changes like Tahm Kench’s and other recent patches may signal to some series veterans that Riot’s focus may be shifting toward catering to newer audiences.

League of Legends continues to stay relevant, both to casual fans and hardcore esport players, due to Riot Games’ sustained development support. Constant reworks of old champions means that no single character becomes obsolete, allowing players to stick with their favorite characters and play styles. Meanwhile, new champions are semi-frequently added (with Gwen becoming the 155th in April) to ensure that the game never grows too stagnant.
