When initially faced with the big decision to make between choosing Josie or Hope, Landon ran rather than face up to the decision. In some ways, his indecision mirrored another famous one from the 1990s, Dylan trying to choose between Brenda and Kelly in 90210. While Dylan famously flip-flopped between the two, once even listening to a song about indecision on repeat on an old jukebox, Landon ran. Hey, he also thought he was saving everyone. So that makes things, okay, right? Wrong!

Who better to call Landon out than Lizzie, the less-filtered Gemini twin? She brings him back, and he realizes that he must come clean with Josie and Hope. While we know, he chose Hope, should he have picked Josie instead? Will he flip-flop between the two, like Dylan infamously did? What the reasons why he should ultimately choose Josie or Hope? Here’s our look back at Legacies!

10 Josie: She Stuck By Landon When They Were Lost

When Season 2 opens, both Josie and Landon were incredibly lost. Landon’s best friend was a werewolf, unable to return to human form. Josie’s father was no longer head master and dealing with being kicked out of the position. In addition, Landon couldn’t help but feel something else was missing–a memory of a girl that he only saw fragments of when he died (and then forgot once he came back to life as a Phoenix). Josie’s first love left, and her sister was in Europe with her mom.

In this truly dark and difficult time, they were there for each other. Josie convinced Landon that they could make the best of their time. She also convinced him to stop killing himself as the Phoenix and be more present, rather than focused on the past and what was missing.

9 Hope: She & Landon Have a History

Landon met Hope when Hope was a character in The Originals when Klaus, her dad, was still alive. One Klaus’s last day, he watched Hope and Landon dance together. While Klaus could be vicious and protective when it came to his daughter, he liked seeing Hope laugh and enjoy her time as a teenager. Landon was one of the first guys who Hope liked.

When they met again in Legacies, they remember each other even though years have passed. That was how much meeting each other meant. Due to this connection, Hope makes sure that Landon is okay. When he’s held in a tight space and confesses his fear of such spaces, she uses her magic to show him stars in order to calm him. And it works.

8 Josie: She’s Extremely Selfless

Landon has said many times that Josie is the most self-less person that he knows. While Josie did go dark this season, she ultimately does the right thing often to her own detriment. When her sister is possessed by a demon, rather than kill her sister, she absorbs dark energy and saves her sister.

This exhausts her, but she loves her sister, so it is a small cost. Later, she also finds a way to bring back everyone’s memories of Hope even though she suspects that she’ll lose Landon by doing so.

7 Hope: She Sacrificed Herself for Landon

Although Hope isn’t usually nearly as self-less as Josie, she does do a lot for those she loves. Also, a part of her actions are about doing the right thing. She knows that there is darkness in her; she knows that her parents (and especially her father) are considered villains by many others. Because she knows this, she’s constantly trying to prove that she is good.

So when she discovered that she could save Landon and her friends by sacrificing herself, she dove into the Malivore with hardly a second thought. Of course, she didn’t consult Landon or any of her friends when she did it, which is something that Josie wouldn’t have done.

6 Josie: She Communicates Well

Landon and Josie communicate well with each other, meaning that they are mostly honest about their feelings and their faults. Many times, they talk through things, which is healthier than Hope and Landon who have more problems with communication.

When Landon’s memories of Hope are back, Josie directly asks him who he wants to be with. Although she can be seem as the meeker twin, she is still direct and honest. No doubt these are traits that she learned from her mother.

5 Hope: She & Landon Have More Spark & Chemistry

Hope is a feisty and strong girlfriend. This works for Landon as he is mostly a more laid-back guy. Additionally, anytime that these two are together, they light up the screen with their chemistry.

While Landon had to work at his relationship with Josie, at times even trying to convince himself that he wanted to be in the relationship, it feels more natural with Hope. They are passionate together.

4 Josie: She & Landon Are Similar To One Another

Josie and Landon understand each other really well because they are so similar. Both of them are used to taking care of others. They are used to being the one that their friends depend upon. Additionally, they are quieter and big thinkers.

Because of these similarities, they understand each other in ways that Hope and Landon don’t. This makes their communication flow more easily as well.

3 Hope: Landon’s Manifested Subconscious Loves Her

Josie and Landon created a temporary being that was molded into Landon’s form. The temporary being also had Landon’s subconscious put into him. This being immediately sought out Hope to tell her that he loved her.

On multiple times, the subconscious said that he loved Hope. At one point, he even said that he was sorry that the real Landon was too much of a coward to tell her.

2 Josie: She & Landon Started Out as Friends

Josie and Landon were friends before anything else, meaning that their romance grew on more stable ground. It could be that their relationship will mirror Stefan and Caroline’s–a strong friendship, initial romantic feelings, and finally true love and romance.

Like Landon, Stefan was stuck on a passionate love for a long time (Elena), and it took him a while to realize that there was another love for him that was more mature. Perhaps, this will be the same for Josie and Landon. Starting out as friends is a very good prognosis for a strong relationship.

1 Hope: Landon Loves Her

But when it comes down to it, at least for right now, Landon loves Hope. His subconscious said it aloud many times, and finally, in this last episode, Landon says it. While Josie and Landon may look better on paper, the heart wants what it wants. Landon’s heart wants Hope.

Any attempt at creating a love triangle, whether that be Josie-Landon-Hope or Rafael-Hope-Landon, doesn’t trick the viewers because it’s quite clear that Landon loves Hope just as much as she loves him. This may change in time and in another season, but for now, it is the winning card.
